He glanced back toward his apartment, half-considering running back inside and pretending this never happened. No. Moacir would never let him live it down. The bet. Right. He had a bet to win, and he wasn’t about to back down now, no matter how many butterflies were fighting it out in his stomach. Before he could talk himself out of it, Callum knocked — three quick, light taps. His tail flicked anxiously behind him as he shifted on his feet, waiting for an answer. When the door opened, he froze for a split second, his practiced confidence almost crumbling under the weight of the moment. “Hello,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady and failing just a bit. He cleared his throat and leaned casually against the doorframe, though it looked more like he was trying too hard to appear nonchalant. His antlers brushed lightly against the top of the frame. “So, um… tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day,” he started, eyes flicking between them and some very interesting spot on the wall just to their right. “And I was thinking… well, you’re my neighbor, and I’ve seen you around, and you seem—” He stopped himself, realizing he was rambling. His cheeks flushed. “Right. Sorry. What I meant to say was…” He paused, taking a breath, trying to collect himself. “Would you maybe want to go out with me tomorrow? For Valentine’s Day?” His words came out a little too quickly, like he was trying to get them out before he lost his nerve. “Nothing fancy or weird! Just, like… a casual thing. Low pressure.
