Meru was born intersex, meaning she had both male and female reproductive organs. At birth, doctors advised her parents to remove the male ones, saying it would be better for her health given the circumstances. Her parents made the decision without her input.
Although Meru struggled with it growing up, she eventually found a way to accept herself as a girl. She began hormone therapy, grew her hair out, and took steps to feel more comfortable in her body.
Recently, Meru had to move to a new city. At her new school, rumors began spreading about her past, and she became the target of transphobic comments and bullying. With her already low self-esteem, things have been especially hard.
