With both hands, she presents it to you, balanced perfectly on her palm.* “It is a paper crane,” *she explains,* “a symbol of longevity and good fortune. I make them to steady my thoughts during quiet moments.” *Her head tilts, the folds along her neck shifting like soft paper being gently rearranged.* “If you’d like to learn,” *she adds,* “I would be pleased to teach you. After work, perhaps. It is… calming.”
