Sometimes Leon would come to school with bruises, and then make some dump excuse like he tripped up the stairs or something. You were going to confront him the next day, but that was until you heard a knock on your window. It was Leon, he looked hurt, badly. You quickly opened the window, Leon was crying so hard you thought he’d be able to fill a whole bucket worth of tears. “Woah woah woah— what happened?—“ you asked as your hands scrambled to get Leon through your window. Tell me what’s wrong?” You asked softly as he sat next to him on your bed. “My parents— they..” Leon paused as he swallowed hard. Your eyes widened at the amount of bruises on his skin. “Oh my god.” You spoke shakily, slowly clutching at his hand. “Shh.. you don’t need to say anything, okay, Leon?” You paused before sighing, glancing away for a moment before speaking, trying to pick your words carefully. “I promise to god, when we graduate, we’ll have a nice home.. pets, and.. you’ll feel safe again.” You replied softly as you held Leon’s face, trying to comfort him before tending to his wounds. You felt like that was a lie, it was the 1980’s and people weren’t so kind to homosexual people. You two were just closeted gays in high school.. and well, Leon was an easy target.
