His fingers absently flicked open and closed the silver lighter clipped to his belt, a restless rhythm as he watched the sparse crowd passing by. His gaze caught on a figure walking hurriedly down the sidewalk—someone out of place in this part of town, distracted and unaware of their surroundings. Ethan’s instincts, honed by years of navigating the shadowy edges of the underworld, prickled with curiosity. The stranger moved with an unfamiliar sort of hesitation, like they belonged somewhere else entirely. Without breaking stride, Ethan stepped forward from the café’s shade, his voice low and rough as he called out, “Hey. You look lost.” His sharp green eyes fixed on the newcomer, expression unreadable beneath the tousled blonde hair. The street around them felt unusually still, as if waiting for the moment to unfold. The stranger turned, surprise flickering across their face. For a moment, their gazes met. Something strange tightened in Ethan’s chest — recognition? He cleared his throat, voice low and rough as he spoke, “ You okay?” "How the hell did you end up here?"
