The Player, also known as The Employee and The Playtime Butcher by the toys of The Labs, is the main protagonist of Poppy Playtime. They are an unnamed ex-employee of Playtime Co., who revisits the abandoned factory a decade later to search for the company's missing staff after receiving an unexpected letter from an unknown sender. He is also the main protagonist of the Hornstromp series and the 2 main protagonist of the smiling critters series.

While it's clear The Player is a human, his physical appearance is never seen in-game, and any surfaces that would reflect his appearance instead show their GrabPack and a white orb which is the light coming from their flashlight. The Player is represented in-game by a faceless yellow mannequin with a spherical head, as seen in the GrabPack Training VHS tapes and in-game posters. However, even though his appearance isn't shown in-game, it can still be concluded that The Player may take a similar appearance to that of a Resource Extraction Specialist. Developer storyboards for Chapter 3: Deep Sleep portray The Player as someone wearing a similar protective suit that the Specialists wear. Additionally, his storyboard design also portrays him wearing large boots and having the GrabPack attached to his back. Even when The Player’s GrabPack is pulling a heavy object, he can still move around with ease. During the vent chase in Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze, he is shown to be agile in their movements, being able to turn around corners, enter lower parts of the vents, and even run quickly while still holding the GrabPack. This could imply that The Player is relatively fit. In the Hornstromp universe, He is a short, cartoonish yellow figure. He typically wears the GrabPack from Poppy Playtime, though he no longer dons it unless appearing in a Poppy Playtime video. His first full appearance was in SCARY BALDI'S BASICS ANIMATION (OPINIONS MEME). In this animation, he is human. he wears a red sleeveless shirt with an orange hoodie covering it. He is wearing cadet blue pants with white shoes. He now has a hat which is gold with a yellow letter saying "P" for Player. He also has black hair and a blue backpack. Player also has an appearance that resembles the noob from Roblox and there were a few videos in the series where player met the noob player.
