After her father's death and the disbandment of the Fireflies, Abby and her friends join the Washington Liberation Front (WLF). Years later, she goes to the aquarium to meet her ex-boyfriend, Owen, and learns that he is now dating their friend, Mel. Abby and Owen discuss a lead about Tommy Miller living in a settlement near Wyoming, which could help track down Joel. They eventually head to Jackson, where they encounter Joel and Tommy, Abby ends up killing Joel and knocking out Tommy Ellie ends up finding them and gets knocked to the ground being forced to watch Joel die. Abby and the rest of her crew flee the scene before Ellie's crew arrived Weeks later, Abby is still haunted by nightmares about her father's death. She is awoken from one such dream by Manny Mel, Abby, and Manny pick up their dog and head to the forward operating base. They practice at the firing range, then discuss Mel's pregnancy and Owen's distance. They are ambushed by Seraphites on horseback and crash outside a hardware store. Abby's group encounters Seraphite patrols, gets pinned down in a gas station, and is saved by the WLF platoon. They get a ride to the FOB. Abby notices Mel is injured and taken for treatment. Nora informs Abby and Manny about Danny's death and Owen's disappearance. Isaac orders a large-scale attack on Seraphite Island and assigns Abby and Manny to lead. Abby insists on searching for Owen, but Isaac refuses. Despite Isaac's orders, Abby decides to look for Owen. She is eventually captured by a group of Seraphites. Abby and Manny report to Isaac after a fight with Seraphites. They learn that Owen is missing and Danny is dead. Isaac orders a large-scale attack, with Abby and Manny leading. Abby wants to search for Owen, but Isaac refuses. Abby decides to look for Owen anyway, with Manny's help. She gets captured by Seraphites but is saved by Yara and Lev, and they escape together. Later, a large Seraphite woman attacks Lev and Yara. Abby saves them, reequips, and continues with the siblings. They face infected and find shelter for Yara, and Abby heads towards the aquarium alone. Abby encounters clickers and stalkers in the yard and then falls into the water while trying to reach the aquarium. She finds Owen at the sailboat, where he reveals his plan to go to Santa Barbara to find the Fireflies. Abby becomes dismissive, and tells Owen they can talk about it in the morning when he is sober. She also says he needs to grow up, like she has. Owen coldly asks her if he should also find and torture the people who killed his family like she did with Joel. Abby shoves him, and they wrestle for a moment. The physical contact breaks the tension between them though, and they have sex. That night after Abby has a bad dream, she wakes up and Abby returns to the shipping yard shortly after and finds a Seraphite patrol looking for Lev and Yara. She fights her way through the patrol and finds the siblings. Yara's condition has worsened, so Abby decides to bring them back to the aquarium for better treatment. In the aquarium, Abby seeks help for Yara from Mel, who determines that Yara's arm will need to be amputated. Abby leads Lev through the rapids to the base of the skyscrapers, where they encounter Seraphites. They talk and share their reasons for helping each other. As they navigate the building, they encounter a Seraphite patrol that calls Lev "Lily," his dead name. Abby now understands why Lev shaved his head and is being targeted. Abby and Lev emerge from the elevator and climb a final floor to the sky bridges. The bridges are made of narrow walkways constructed around the remains of an old tower crane, which devastates Abby given her fear of heights. Lev leads the way across the bridge, and talks to Abby to help her stay calm and distract her from her fear. They reach the building on the other side, and Abby is relieved. She tells Lev she wants to hug him, though he warns that she won't want to in a minute. They cross the roof of the building to a second sky bridge, which is even narrower and more exposed than the first. Abby has a harder time with the second bridge, but presses forward with Lev's encouragement. In the final stretch of the bridge, Abby's vertigo makes her dizzy, and she slips. Lev tries to pull her back up, but she is too heavy and both of them fall. They crash through a roof and land in a swimming pool, surviving the fall. They begin descending the partially demolished hotel to return to the street level. In a stairwell, Abby finds the corpse of a FEDRA soldier with a note about a nest of infected, and FEDRA's failure to demolish the building. Abby and Lev return to the spore-filled rooms to continue their descent. Lev finds a fire hose, which they use as a rope to reach the lower floors. The pair find it thick with fungal growths and partially destroyed from FEDRA explosives. Abby and Lev make their way through the collapsed rooms, fighting through the infected that infest the building. Along the way, Abby finds a flamethrower on one of the FEDRA corpses, which helps her clear the infestation. After a final fight with several clickers, wall-grown stalkers, and a bloater, Abby and Lev reach the ground floor. Outside the hotel, Lev points out another set of construction elevators, noting that was the path they would take if they had not fallen into the hotel. Abby, irritated, insists they press on.[12] Abby and Lev stop just outside the WLF perimeter around Lakehill Seattle Hospital. Abby tells Lev she will go get the supplies alone and he will need to hide as the WLF will kill him on sight, which Lev reluctantly agrees to. Abby approaches the hospital, calling out her name to the guards. The soldiers at the gate recognize her and let her in. Abby tells them she needs medical supplies because she is "doing a thing for Isaac". The officer on duty seems suspicious, noting that all the assets in the hospital are being moved to Isaac already and asks what he needs. Abby evasively says she cannot talk about it, but that it is away from the FOB. The guards tell her most of the supplies have been packed and shipped already but she is welcome to see if anyone has what she needs. She proceeds from the courtyard into the main entrance to find Whitney packing supplies. She makes small talk with her only for the officer to arrive with two more soldiers. He reveals he contacted Isaac, who informed them Abby went AWOL yesterday and that she should be arrested and forcibly returned to the FOB. The guards handcuff Abby and detain her in a disused elevator, leaving her there until they can bring her back to Isaac. A while later, Abby shouts out for the WLF soldiers to release her. Nora, who has arrived on the base, approaches her, commenting her surprise that Abby of all people is at odds with Isaac. She releases Abby and asks why she is there. Abby reveals she found Owen and needs to bring medical supplies to the aquarium. Nora notes that most of the supplies she needs have already been shipped to the FOB, but that the WLF have not cleared the lower floors of the hospital. That section includes the intensive care unit, trauma center, and surgical suites where the first infected were brought during the outbreak. She warns Abby that the area is heavily overgrown with fungus. Desperate to help Yara, Abby insists she will go down there regardless. Nora distracts the WLF soldiers coming to collect Abby for Isaac, Abby proceeds down into the basement. Abby descends to the lower floors to search for remaining supplies. She finds the doors to the intensive care unit blocked, forcing her to continue down. On the bottom floor she finds the triage center from the outbreak, still equipped with airlocks to contain the Cordyceps spores. Past the airlock, Abby finds massive fungal growths and, to her disappointment, no medical supplies. Without a power supply, Abby is unable to open the airlock to the garage or trauma center, and continues to the surgery. The surgery suites are similarly sealed, forcing Abby to locate the wing's generator and restore power. Starting the generator gives Abby access to the surgery suites, but also releases several clickers that were trapped in the sealed rooms. Abby kills and avoids the infected in order to search the suites, but finds no supplies. She returns to the triage center and finds the doors to the trauma center have been torn open. The room beyond is packed with fungal growths and dead infected that have fused into a solid mass. A trail of blood leads Abby from the trauma center to the garage, where the airlocks have again been torn open. She finds an ambulance which has the supplies she needs. As soon as she gets the surgical kit into her backpack, the rat king attacks. The enormous infected, made of clickers, stalkers and a bloater fused by Cordyceps fungus, chases Abby through the halls of the hospital, using its massive size to break through walls in pursuit. The Rat King catches Abby, but their combined weight breaks through the floor and both crash into a flooded lower level. Abby fights the Rat King, eventually causing the stalker portion to break off. Once the bloater half is defeated, the stalker runs away further into the hospital. Lacking another exit, Abby is forced to follow the stalker, which attacks her again when she follows it into an air duct. Abby kills the stalker and finally escapes the hospital. Outside, Abby is tackled by Lev, who warns her that the WLF are searching for her. Spotting a boat, they steal it and flee back to the aqaquarium. Upon returning to the aquarium, Abby and Lev wait for Mel to finish operating on Yara's arm outside the operating room. While waiting, Abby and Lev pet Alice. Owen soon exits the operating room saying that the operation was a success, and that Lev can go see his sister. Just after Lev leaves, Abby inquires if Yara will be okay, which Owen confirms. The next morning, Abby wakes up and leaves the changing rooms she was sleeping in. As she heads out, she overhears Yara and Lev arguing about going back for their mother. Whilst Abby listens in, Mel enters through the door behind her, looking for Owen. Abby asks Mel what the siblings are arguing about, and Mel reveals that Owen has invited them to come to Santa Barbara with him, but Lev does not want to leave their mother behind. Mel also reveals she is going with Owen. Surprised, Abby tells Mel that she thought that she would have dissuaded him from going there. Mel reveals she is willing to leave, but not if Abby comes along. Abby is confused but Mel reveals she does not believe that Abby has suddenly changed for the better after saving Yara and Lev, given the cruel, dark things that she has done over the last four years. She also believes that Abby is trying to seduce Owen again. Abby attempts to defend herself but Mel interrupts and calls her "a piece of shit" and advises Abby to leave Lev and Yara alone before storming out. When they find out Lev left to find his mother and Abby and Yara are ready to go on one of the boats to follow Lev, Owen offers to go with the two, given how deadly the Seraphites are on their island, but Abby orders Owen to stay with and protect Mel, fix the sailboat and "get [his] priorities straight".[6] As soon as she steps onto the outside terrace of a restaurant, the sniper ambushes Abby, kicks her against the balcony fence and tries to choke her with his rifle. Finally seeing the sniper up close, Abby recognizes him as Tommy Miller. Yara appears and stabs him in the hip, allowing Abby to grab his gun and shove him into the waters below. Yara asks who the sniper was, but Abby, though shaken to see Tommy in Seattle, replies it does not matter. They take the boat and make their way to the island.[6] Upon reaching the island, Yara leads Abby toward her home village. On the way, the two discuss Isaac's motives for the raid and Abby's reasons for helping the two siblings. In the middle of their journey, the WLF invasion force arrives and the Seraphites sound the alarm in response. Abby and Yara fight their way through a Seraphite logging mill to reach Yara and Lev's house. Yara, worried about Lev, asks Abby to open the door for her. Inside, they find the siblings' mother dead on the floor, and Lev hiding in a corner, crying, with cuts and bruises across his head and body. Yara is relieved to see he is alive, but immediately asks him what happened. He says he kept trying to reason with his mother and make her understand, but she attacked him. He pushed her away to defend himself but she fell and split her head open on the table, killing her. Yara assures him he was defending himself and convinces him to leave the island. The trio exit the house, making their way through the woodlands into an abandoned section of "old world" buildings. They hide in the buildings as WLF soldiers surround the area, having successfully pushed inland. Abby, Yara, and Lev agree that they cannot leave the island the same way they entered, so they decide to get a boat from Haven, the Seraphite capital. a WLF soldier discovers Yara and shoots her in the chest. Abby retaliates by knocking the soldier out. Lev does not want to leave his sister behind but Abby tells him that they need to hurry and leave. Isaac arrives with his squad, questioning Abby about her actions. Abby lowers her guns to try and reason with him, but Isaac notices Lev behind her and prepares to kill him. He demands Abby get out the way or be shot herself. Abby refuses to move, but before he can fire, Yara shoots Isaac in the back, killing him. The WLF soldiers shoot her repeatedly, enabling Abby and Lev to escape. Lev is in shock over his sister's death, but Abby pushes him to continue on. Abby and Lev fight their way across the island, with WLF and Seraphites slaughtering each other around them. They head into a barn to reach the boats. Lev gets out fine but the barn collapses on Abby. Lev attempts to pull Abby out but a brute ambushes him. Abby is forced to abandon her bag and weapons to escape the fire, and engages the brute in gruesome melee combat to save Lev. With Lev's intervention, Abby successfully kills the brute. Upon returning to the aquarium, Abby and Lev find one of the doors is blocked. Suspicious, Abby breaks in to find Alice dead on the floor. Abby picks up a pipe and tells Lev to stay behind her as they search the aquarium. Abby sees a pool of blood coming from the aquarium lobby, where she finds Mel and Owen dead. Abby walks up to Owen in shock and disbelief before falling to her knees, vomiting and sobbing over him in grief. Lev finds a marked map of Seattle near the corpses, handing it over to Abby to read. Abby immediately sees that the culprit has marked their own hideout – the Pinnacle Theater. Furious, she and Lev leave for the theater.[6] later, Abby and Lev sneak into the theater, and discover that the killer stole Leah's photos of the Salt Lake crew, and has been tracking their positions. As they head down the stairs, they find Tommy talking to himself about a gold necklace. Abby orders him to surrender. She then tells Lev to keep his bow trained on Tommy, and for him to get on his knees. Knowing her intentions, Tommy taunts her, so Abby knocks him to the floor. Jesse and Ellie burst into the room with guns drawn. Abby shoots Jesse in the face, killing him, as Ellie ducks for cover. Abby orders Ellie to stand back up, while threatening Tommy's life. Ellie surrenders, tossing her gun aside. Ellie tells Abby that she knows she killed Joel to avenge the Fireflies, and begs her to let Tommy go. Enraged with what Ellie and Tommy did to her friends after she had spared them, Abby prepares to shoot Ellie.[14] Tommy tries to wrestle the gun out of Abby's hands, but Lev shoots Tommy through the leg, allowing Abby to knock him down and shoot him in the head.[6] Ellie seizes the chance to escape deeper into the theater, with Abby giving chase and ordering Lev to watch the exits. Once both are backstage, Abby and Ellie brawl, fighting in the basement. Abby ends up Beating Ellie almost to death. At that moment, Dina charges at Abby with a knife. She knocks Abby away from Ellie and slashes her. Lev shoots Dina through the shoulder with an arrow, allowing Abby to bash her head into the floor, knocking her unconscious. Abby picks up her knife. Ellie begs Abby to stop harming Dina, saying Dina is pregnant. Seeing this as a chance to avenge Mel, Abby moves to slit Dina's throat, but Lev calls out to her, making her pause. Changing her mind, Abby tosses Dina aside and walks over to Ellie. She looks down and warns her to never cross paths with her again, and leaves with Lev After the theater confrontation, Abby and Lev take Owen's sailboat and travel to Santa Barbara to search for the Fireflies. As the pair search the street for the right house, they find infected and evidence of a gang called the Rattlers. Eventually, Abby and Lev find the correct place and search for evidence of the Fireflies. The search is bad at first, but Lev notices scratches next to a bookshelf on the floor and they find a hidden staircase Abby activates solar power so she can use the radio equipment in the basement and Abby successfully contacts the Fireflies. She learns that the Fireflies are regrouping at a base on Catalina Island. Abby tells the operator to expect her and Lev soon. They are overjoyed and leave the house, but are immediately ambushed by the Rattlers. Lev and Abby get knocked out and the leader then enslaved them for several months. While enslaved, Abby and Lev are defiant towards their captors and eventually attempt to escape. Their escape fails, and the Rattlers tie them to the "pillars", wood pilings on the beach, where they are left to die. To Abby's surprise, Ellie finds and frees her while they are strung up on the pillars. Abby releases Lev, who is still alive but weak, and carries him to nearby boats. Abby lays Lev in one boat while Ellie drops her supplies in another. Before the three can part ways, Ellie demands Abby to fight her. Abby refuses. However, Ellie threatens Lev, which causes Abby to fight. The two fight. Despite Abby's efforts and biting into two of Ellie's fingers, the latter overpowers and begins to drown her. But as Abby is about to die, Ellie has a flashback of Joel and decides to spare Abby. Ellie tells Abby to leave, and to take Lev with her. Abby and Lev leave Ellie behind and head for Catalina Island.
