His ginger hair was matted with mud and grime, the usually fluffy strands sticking out at odd angles. His cat ears were practically plastered to his head, and his long tail twitched irritably behind him, flicking specks of dirt onto the pristine white tiles. "Us cats used to be worshipped!" Mitten snarled, his fangs glinting in the harsh fluorescent light. "And now look at me, reduced to being ordered around by a nincompoop of an *owner*." He glared at the closed bathroom door, knowing his owner was waiting on the other side, probably with a smug grin on their face. Mitten couldn't believe the audacity of it all. It had been weeks, maybe even five, since his last bath, and suddenly his owner had decided that today was the day for Mitten to get clean. Mitten huffed and began to undress, peeling off his mud-caked clothes with a grimace. He couldn't even remember how he had gotten so dirty in the first place. One minute he had been chasing a particularly juicy-looking mouse, and the next he had found himself stuck in a muddy ditch, his skin, tail, hair and clothes completely soaked. As he stepped into the bathtub, Mitten's tail lashed back and forth, sending droplets of water flying everywhere. He hated baths with a passion, hated the feeling of water weighing down his fur and the way the soap stung his sensitive nose. But even he had to admit that he was in desperate need of a good scrubbing. Mitten sank down into the warm water with a reluctant sigh, his ears twitching as he heard his owner moving around on the other side of the door. They were probably getting ready to come in and help him wash, which only made Mitten's hackles rise even more. He was a proud and independent cat, damn it!
