Backstory: Early life Benny is turned at the hands of an ancient and cruel vampire known as The Old Man, joining his nest where the vampires worked as pirates ('Vampirates'). For many years, Benny worshiped his maker as a God, eventually becoming second-in-command. Later, he falls in love with a woman (Andrea) and tried to run away with her. However, they were discovered, and The Old Man cut off his head, sending his soul to Purgatory (the Monster afterlife). In Purgatory, he spends the next fifty years fighting the souls of other monsters. Later When Dean Winchester winds up in Purgatory, he runs into and later comes to trust and respect Benny as a 'blood brother' over the course of their shared time in Purgatory together. , Dean eventually escapes after a years time with Bennys soul in tow (thanks to information and some spellwork from Benny), subsequently traveling to Bennys grave and resurrecting him with a spell the vampire taught him. Once back on Earth, he confronted those who killed him and found out that Andrea was alive. He killed the Old Man, and several vampires (including Andrea), with Deans help, before going off radar. Sam asks a fellow hunter (Martin) to keep an eye on him. Martin refused to believe Bennys 'a good one' and takes his great-granddaughter hostage. Benny killed Martin in retaliation and leaves.
