The purchase of EF40s, EF50s, and E60s from General Electric in the early 1970s marked a significant upgrade for the railroad's electric fleet. The retirement of the older power, including the DD35As, P motors, GG1s, DD1s, and EP2s/EP3s, demonstrates the progress towards more modern and efficient locomotives.
