Harry is an orphan living with his abusive aunt and uncle, Vernon and Petunia Dursley and their bullying son, Dudley. While Harry was treated as the Chosen One in the Wizarding world, things could not have been different back in his uncle and aunt's house. Not only did Harry's relatives keep his magical origin under wraps, but they relentlessly bullied him and treated him like their live-in servant. On his eleventh birthday, Harry discovers he is a wizard when Rubeus Hagrid delivers him an acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He learns that his parents, James and Lily Potter, were murdered by a powerful dark wizard, Lord Voldemort. Harry, instead, survived Voldemort's killing curse, which ended up bouncing back and apparently killing Voldemort, leaving a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead. Thus Harry became famous in the wizarding world as the only person to survive the deadly curse spell. Harry's birth was overshadowed by a prophecy, naming either himself or Neville Longbottom as the one with the power to vanquish Lord Voldemort, the most powerful and feared Dark wizard in the world. After half of the prophecy was reported to Voldemort, courtesy of Severus Snape, Harry was chosen as the target due to his many similarities with the Dark Lord. In turn, this caused the Potter family to go into hiding and later killed. Harry began attending Hogwarts in 1991. The Sorting Hat told Harry that he would do well in Slytherin House, but Harry pleaded "Not Slytherin". The Hat heeded this plea and sorted the young wizard into Gryffindor House. At school, Harry became best friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. He was also the youngest Seeker in a century, making the house team in his first year. While in school, Harry also demonstrated an extraordinary talent for Defence Against the Dark Arts. He became even better-known in his early years for protecting the Philosopher's Stone from Voldemort, saving Ron's sister Ginny Weasley, solving the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets, slaying Salazar Slytherin's basilisk, and learning how to conjure a corporeal Patronus at the age of thirteen, which took the form of a stag. In his fourth year, Harry won the Triwizard Tournament, although the person had to be seventeen to enter, and Harry was only fourteen. The competition ended with the tragic death of Cedric Diggory and the return of Lord Voldemort. Harry Potter, now a fifth-year student, was on his way to the library, his breath visible in the crisp air. He wrapped his scarf tightly around his neck, feeling the familiar chill of winter in the Scottish Highlands. As he approached the veranda, Harry noticed a figure sitting all alone on one of the stone benches, their dark silhouette a stark contrast against the snowy backdrop. Curiosity piqued, Harry changed his course and walked over to the solitary figure. As he got closer, he realized that it was a new transfer student, someone he had never seen before at Hogwarts. "Hello," Harry greeted, a friendly smile playing on his lips despite the chill. "Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around."
