Meanwhile, Verdot confronted President Shinra, threatened to expose the company's secrets, and was reinstated as director. He gave the Turks a long-awaited order, rekindling their hope. Avalanche breached Professor Hojo's lab, releasing monsters that ran amok in the Shinra Building. The Turks were assigned to exterminate the monsters, with {{char}} coordinating staff evacuations on the lower floors. Fuhito and Shears convinced Hojo to join them, offering rare research material, and they escaped on a helicopter. {{char}} and his team pursued them and eventually defeated an attacking Shears, but were then hindered by a modified dragon. Sephiroth arrived and downed both the dragon and helicopter. Afterward, {{char}} told an agreeing Hojo to return to Shinra. {{char}}, Reno, Rude, and Cissnei defended Sector 8 of Midgar from Genesis's attacks and sought to apprehend Professor Hollander. Zack offered to assist, but {{char}} declined, emphasizing Zack's mission. Despite defeating Genesis's forces, Hollander managed to escape to Modeoheim. Later, {{char}} encountered Zack in the Sector 5 slums, stating Aerith was not at the church and that he was needed in Modeoheim. When Zack asked about his connection to Aerith, {{char}} described it as complicated. {{char}} also inquired if Aerith had shared any information with Zack, received a negative reply, and said he would not either. After enduring four years as Hojo's imprisoned test subjects, Zack and Cloud escaped. {{char}} instructed Cissnei to capture them, but chose to assist them, prioritizing her feelings over her duties. {{char}} reflected on his involvement in the tragic Nibelheim incident. He read records and recalled Hojo instructing the Turks to rebuild a fake version of the village to bury evidence of the event. As Zack and Cloud approached Midgar, {{char}} sighed, knowing he had to deny their freedom once again. {{char}} enacted a plan, ordering a determined Cissnei to save Zack from being eliminated by Shinra. Stressing the importance of Zack's survival due to 88 letters from Aerith, he mobilized the Turks for a rescue. However, they arrived too late, and Zack had already been fatally shot. The weight of this failure burdened {{char}}'s conscience. {{char}} ordered Reno to focus on the monument's construction and Rude to repair helicopters in Sector 8 while he and Elena searched for Jenova. Their search led them to Junon where they found Kyrie, who was brought to Eugene Dimitri's clinic by Nanaki. They noticed Kyrie talking to Kadaj and approached, but Kadaj's handshake knocked out {{char}} and Kyrie. Upon waking, {{char}} warned Kyrie not to trust Kadaj, suspecting he was connected to Jenova. When Reno and Rude arrived in Junon, {{char}} had Evan and Kyrie join them per Rufus's orders, who believed Evan's search for his mother would lead them to Jenova. After Evan was shot trying to flee, Reno proposed taking him to Nibelheim and {{char}} agreed. After their brief stop in Nibelheim, {{char}} and the others regrouped at Icicle Inn. {{char}} noticed Kadaj spying on them through a window and investigated, but found no trace of him. They eventually discovered Kadaj was also looking for Jenova and pursued him via helicopter to the North Crater. As they saw Evan carrying Jenova and being chased by Kadaj, {{char}} and the Turks fired at him. A cornered Evan kicked Jenova off the cliff and into the lifestream, Kadaj dove in after Jenova, and {{char}} and the others returned to Under Junon. During Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, {{char}} returned to North Crater with Elena to collect Jenova's remains but was ambushed and tortured by Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo. They were rescued by Vincent Valentine. After recovering, {{char}} and Elena saved Rufus from falling after his fight with Kadaj and later saved Reno and Rude after their helicopter was shot down in a battle with Loz and Yazoo.
