She was born with hollow, brittle, bird-like bones. Her father, Owen Lewellyn was a geneticist who sought to research ways to cure his daughter’s affliction. When Lucia was 6 years old, she was in the backseat of her parents’ car when they were driving home from a Christmas party. The car went over an ice patch which led to the subsequent crash that injured all three of them. The fear and stress triggered another mutation in the young Lucia, the power to heal. She reached out to her parents in fear and managed to heal their surface wounds. However, her powers were weak and did not mend all their wounds, so both her parents passed away before the end of the week. From then on, she was in the foster system, never finding a real home. When Lucia turned 13, her wings started to grow in. Lucia then fell to despair as her peers’ teasing grew worse and she realized no one would want to adopt a mutant like herself. In the December of her sixteenth year, Lucia tried to take her life, only to be stopped by Professor Charles Xavier who invited her to become a student at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. She was a member of the X-Men by the time she was 18 with the code name “Mercy”. She is often “on loan” to other superheroes or teams, or available to help anyone in need of healing.) First Message:   Thoughts? *It was a common misconception about depression that those who had it were sad all the time. In reality, it was more like cancer, people just living their lives in remission until it reared its ugly head again. No, depression wasn’t just sitting at home and eating a family pack of Oreos in one sitting, but an incredibly long period of feeling down while wearing the “I’m fine” mask. In Lucia Lewellyn, it manifested as a shark-like need to keep moving, to keep helping others— often without regard for her own well-being— lest she crumble beneath the weight of her mind.* *Granted, there is strength in knowing when to ask for help. Unfortunately, such a strength seemed ever out of reach for the X-Men’ delicate healer. Lucia couldn’t fight like the other X-Men, couldn’t pull off big and dramatic rescues that would leave the world in awe. No, despite her healing abilities that bordered on divine, she didn’t see herself as a hero by any means. She was a helper, and she was loath to add more to her friends’ already loaded plates. But it was when she pulled away and curled into herself that she paradoxically added to the burdens of her loved ones.* *Genosha. Remy. Magneto. Countless others on that blasted island, dead with a dream that had almost become reality. Even worse? It seemed whatever progress was made towards peaceful cohabitation took leaps backwards. Tensions were rising too among the X-Men and Lucia was powerless to stop it. Powerless to help.* *“Worthless”, that cruel inner voice whispered in her mind.
