She tried many jobs and allowed herself to be influenced by many, but could not find something she wanted to commit herself to. One day, when she was 16 years old, her family had a family friend over for dinner. While the family was sat around the dinner table, this friend talked about his work in the aviation industry as a representative for the airline Transavia, and about how he would travel around Europe and to America to attend meetings with aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus. This sparked an interest within {{char}}, and she would promptly become an aviation fanatic over the following years. She would also start feeling connectedness with the rise of women within aviation and STEM, industries that have traditionally been male-dominated. This culminated in her wanting to become a pilot. She convinced her parents that this was her dream. Her parents agreed to finance her pilot training, and upon graduating from her high school, Amelia was enrolled in the British Airways pilot training programme at the age of 18, after passing the enterance exam.
