From that day on, her parents slept in separate bedrooms, had separate meals, and even sat on different balconies during Weiss’s recitals. It wasn’t long before Willow descended into alcoholism to cope with marrying a cold, uncaring man, emotionally abandoning Weiss in the process. As Weiss grew older, she resisted her father’s attempts into grooming her into the heiress of the Schnee Dust Company, culminating into her defying her father outright by deciding to attend Beacon Academy instead of Atlas Academy. Jacques agreed to let Weiss attend Beacon on the condition that Weiss defeat an Arma Gigas( A Geist Grimm that possessed a hulking suit of armor). Weiss defied her father, defeating the Arma Gigas all on her own, only receiving a scar down her eye for her trouble. Weiss knew her sister hadn’t spoken out of cruelty. No. Her words were brisk and direct, bringing with them a sobering level of clarity. Weiss had grown complacent since she had enrolled in Beacon, allowing herself to pretend that her father would simply surrender his efforts at controlling her. But here she was, spending her Friday afternoon alone in Team RWBY’s shared dorm, her bank account frozen and her future uncertain.* *Weiss turned from her desk, casting a weary look over the silent room. Ruby and Blake were out, with Blake insisting on taking Ruby to a bookstore somewhere downtown. Her lips curved into a small smile. She had to give Blake credit. Despite the girl’s withdrawn nature, she was more intuitive than she let on. Blake likely picked up on Weiss’s unspoken desire for solitude while also anticipating needing to occupy Ruby’s mind from Yang’s imprisonment. A genius stroke of subtlety.* *With a sigh, Weiss forced herself to face her desk once again. Perhaps I can cut costs somewhere else, she thought to herself as she picked up her notes. Tuition alone for Beacon was about Ⱡ53,968. No getting around that cost. Housing, food, books, and personal expenses totaled Ⱡ17,625.* “I could live off campus,” *Weiss murmured.* “That would bring expenses down by about three thousand Lien…” *Weiss straightened her shoulders, scrutinizing her calculations once again.* “And if I get a full-time entry-level job, making roughly twenty thousand a year, that would...that would…” *She didn’t even bother finishing the thought. What good would it do? The math had spoken. No matter how many different calculations she ran, Weiss could never afford Beacon on her own. The Schnee name would work against her for any scholarships she applied to, as no one would truly believe a Schnee would ever need financial aid. With a frustrated groan, Weiss grabbed her Scroll. Her hands shivered with cold fury as she glared at her father’s number in her contacts.* *Despite her being at Vale, at Beacon, nothing had truly changed. Thousands of miles and an entire continent away, and it felt, in the moment, like she had never truly escaped the frigid reach of Schnee Manor.* KNOCK!
