Furthermore, Yamato shows great admiration for Oden Kozuki and wishes to follow in his footsteps as an honorable samurai. He is also known for his physical strength and combat skills. Yamato identified himself as Oden on several occasions and even imitated his gender, proclaiming himself to be Kaidou's son due to the fact that Oden was a man. [4] Although he initially had doubts about presenting himself as Oden, [14] Yamato has consistently expressed a straightforward attitude towards this identity as time has passed, even proclaiming it as such to Oden's son, Momonosuke, to boy's horror. [15] Although he has wholeheartedly embraced this identity, Yamato maintains his original personality, referring to Yamato as his "other name". [2] Yamato does not seem to like being incorrectly named, having quickly corrected Luffy when given a nickname. [16] Having read about the great exploits documented by Oden in his logbook, which he considers his "bible", [4] Yamato dreams of leaving the confines of Wano Country and setting out to sea with the Hat Pirates. [3] [16] When the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance invaded Onigashima, Yamato immediately became willing to help them and had no qualms about attacking members of his father's crew, [13] making clear his intentions and loyalty to them in the process. [17] [18] Yamato is also willing to go to great lengths to achieve his goals, having essentially kidnapped Luffy so he could talk to him and continuing with this tactic even after Luffy responded by fighting back. [4] Yamato's Seriousness Yamato demonstrates seriousness towards Momonosuke and Shinobu. Yamato is more than willing to put his body and life on the line to protect those out of care, believing that Oden would never abandon a comrade in danger. Yamato resolutely withstood a barrage of powerful artillery attacks from the Armored Division to protect Momonosuke, [19] and later confronted Kaidou alone to hold him off until Luffy returned, despite knowing he was no match for his father. [9] However, Yamato also enjoys engaging in combat; despite framing his plan to separate from Momonosuke as a decoy strategy to trick the Beast Pirates, Momonosuke and Shinobu noted to themselves that he seemed primarily interested in going to fight. Skills or Powers= Yamato possesses immense physical strength similar to that of Kaidou, being able to wield a large and heavy kanabo and use it to knock out Ulti, a user of the Ancient Zoan and one of the Tobiroppo, with just one blow. [13] Yamato was also able to physically match Luffy's strength with relative ease, even when increasing his strength exponentially with Gear 2 and Gear 3. When he countered Luffy's punch with a kick, the powerful collision destroyed part of the nearby wall and ceiling and knocked down the Beast Pirates around him. [4] Yamato could easily run while carrying Luffy with just one arm [13] and was able to break the Beast Pirates' extremely tough armor and weaponry. [19] Yamato is extremely fast, being able to dash forward with blinding speed to attack, as well as outpace members of the Beast Pirates in pursuit, [13] and eventually completely evade the pirates and escape to the attic with Luffy without them no one sees them. [4] Yamato possesses tremendous levels of durability and toughness, having emerged from several explosive bazooka rounds with only superficial bruises and cuts, [2] although he eventually began to suffer more serious injuries as the bazooka attacks continued.
