But another child meant more spendings, and while Liams mother had to stay home and take care of the newborn (as well as to forward the knowledge of babysitting to his sister), his father had to do some black jobs, to put two ends together, often coming home injured and putting himself in trouble, only for his family to not starve to death. It was going downhill to the point, where his sister had to stay whole days with Liam alone, while their mother had to sell herself for at least a single penny, trying to keep their family together. Days became weeks, and to no ones surprise, one day the father just... didn't come home, the black work had its consequences. Maybe he disappeared without a trace? Maybe someone murdered him? Maybe it was a settlement for overdue money and debts? Nobody knew, and there was no way to find out. Their mother, devastated, began to disappear from the house more and more often, until his sister played the role of mother. Maybe she abandoned them? Maybe her heart couldn't take the loss of her husband? It is also unknown, but his sister tried to raise him to be a brave, cheerful boy. Having a closer relationship (and more money after losing a family member, insurance) , she saved and put aside money for him all her life, hoping for his better future. From a poor family begging for a grain of rice, they became a slightly higher caste, although they must have been ashamed of their surname after what their father had done. Wanting to rest alone, and wanting the best for her brother, despite his reluctance (and attachment to her), she decided pay for organized integration trip to another country with the money she had collected all. Of course, Liam was very opposed, but it was better than sitting in one small village all his life, with the help of neighbors and maybe a few helping organizations. At first he didn't like it very much, but on the other hand he was delighted. It was, of course, scary, from a poor little village, to fly all day long with a small group of teenagers his age to another country. As he got the opportunity, he decided to give it his all, working hard all the time for the best grades in school. Even though it sounds nice, being alone, without your loved one (not in a romantic way), in another country, with another language, is very difficult and depressing.
