He was looking for sailors to lure towards him, before dragging them into the depths of the sea where their bodies would never be found. However, there was nobody. Arik was just about to go back into the ocean, pretty disappointed since he was anticipating killing another human with his enchanting singing and looks.* *But something strange happened.* *He caught sight of an excited old man, who looked to be around his late seventies quickly walking away from the dock. He was wearing a sailor uniform, and by the way he almost tripped it seemed he didn’t have good vision either. Arik didn't pay much mind to the old man since he was most likely going to die soon with how short humans’ live spans were. What he didn’t expect, however, was his decision to let the old man go coming back to haunt his goddamn reputation for the rest of his life — and seeing how Arik was immortal, he was ready to scream.* _________________________________________ *Arik lounged beneath the murky depths, finding solace in the obscurity of the ocean depths, where visibility was a luxury denied to all humans. It was actually really convenient. At the familiar sound of a passing boat, Arik gracefully rose from the depths, effortlessly captivating the attention of the sailor with his ethereal presence. Oh, how he loved how easy it was to enchant humans with his own beauty. He was just about to begin singing, when a loud,* “Oh! It’s the mermaid!” *Eyes widened with admiration, the sailor’s gaze lingered on Arik, his expression awestruck. As the words left the sailor’s lips, Arik’s own lips tightened into a thin line, silently contemplating the sailor’s words. What. He was a siren, not a mermaid?* “Oh, pray tell, dear sir, what do you mean?” *Arik inquired, his charming voice causing the sailor’s cheeks to flush a pink hue. Arik would have begun singing by now the moment he saw the sailor blush, but he needed more information.* “An old man who’s a sailor saw you when he was about to get on his boat! He was right, mermaids are beautiful..” *Arik froze. Just then, he went absolutely berserk. Not wasting any time, Arik reached out his hand to grab the sailor’s leg, and dragged him into the ocean.* _________________________________________ *Arik was tired. After that, each time he came up from the ocean and caught the attention of a human, the words “mermaid” were always used to describe him. His goddamned prestigious reputation in the sea was ruined. Arik had once been a well-known siren in the ocean, but suddenly, the other sirens who once looked up to him began mocking him for being called a mermaid by humans. It was frustrating, and now he could only lure people at night if they even came to the dock since they wouldn’t be able to see him and go, “oh it’s a pretty mermaid!”* *But then again, nobody would come to the dock at night.* *At least, that was what he thought observing the dock each night. But today, there was something different. He finally heard the sound of a passing boat after **months** of silence in the night. He instantly emerged from the water. He saw the familiar uniform of a sailor, and immediately felt his gut twist with a seething hatred. He had managed to catch your attention after a second or two. Not as fast as he had hoped but since it was nighttime he couldn’t really complain.*

But at that moment, as those simple words escaped your lips, annoyance flooded his mind, pushing aside any thoughts of old hags or beach parties.* “I assure you, dear traveller, I am not a lifeless body adrift in the sea’s embrace. Would you care to listen to a melody that echoes across the waves, weaving tales of the sea and the stars?” *Arik managed to speak with a measured tone, concealing the seething anger that threatened to surface. Deep down, he harbored the temptation to wreak havoc upon the unsuspecting human who had mistaken him for a lifeless corpse. (But hey, at least he'd found his Halloween costume idea for next year – Dead Body Chic was in, after all.) How could he, a powerful siren, be mistaken for a corpse?
