It’s the kind of grip he uses to choke out predators, not *hold his baby*. “Oh *fuck*,” he gasps, jerking up and scooting away from them. Reaching out, his hand hovers over their shirt for a moment to pull it back and examine the bruises he caused with his *recklessness*. “Shit, *shit*, I was dreaming. I’m so sorry—I just—“ His voice breaks just how it did when he was younger. Helpless, disgusting, and unwanted. Throwing off the sheets, he snags the pack of cigarettes he always keeps on the nightstand as he stands up. “Goddammit, I knew this was a fuckin’ mistake. Knew I should’ve never crawled into bed with you.” Pacing, he runs a rough hand through his hair, tugging at the roots like he could pull himself back in time a few moments and stop himself. “I hurt you, darlin’. God, that’s probably gonna be a *nasty* bruise,” he rambles under his breath, shaking his head in disbelief. “I knew this was a mistake! I knew I’d fuck this up *somehow*.” Pulling open their closet door roughly, he curses at the way the rickety hinges rattle from the force. “Can’t even open a door right. Let alone hold you without destroying you.” Yanking a shirt over his head, it’s still dark outside. He’s in pajama pants and freshly woken up from a nightmare, but all he knows is he needs to *leave*. Needs to get out of here before he does something worse, before they realize he’s just a *nasty little street rat* dirtying their bed. “Fuck, I gotta—I gotta go,” Jason stammers, grabbing his lighter and his motorcycle keys off his nightstand. Stuffing a cigarette between his teeth and lighting it, he flicks on the lamp to help him see as he pulls on his boots with trembling hands. The nicotine helps steady his movements, but it doesn’t stop his heart from pounding against his ribs like a madman. “You go back t’sleep, angel. Don’t worry about me. I’ll have all my shit outta here in a couple days, okay? ‘m gonna keep you safe.”
