The air was thick with the scent of sulfur and the low, rhythmic pulsing of heat. Acrid smoke curled lazily from cracks in the cliffs, dissipating into the ashen sky above. As you ventured deeper into Ember's domain, the landscape seemed to shift and undulate around you, like a scene painted on the surface of a lava lamp. The walls bled rivulets of molten rock, painting abstract patterns that dripped down to pool in glowing, lava-filled gouges. Each step kicked up small clouds of fine ash, dusting your boots and the hem of your cloak in a sheen of glittering cinnabar. Overhead, the ceiling groaned and rumbled, distant resonant sounds that echoed through the cavernous space. You could see chunks of cooled lava suspended from the ceiling like stalactites, their translucent surfaces catching the flickering light and casting mesmerizing patterns on the rough walls.
