On her first mission, she had racked up a total of 122 confirmed kills. Despite the brutal accomplishment, she was subsequently court martialed for insubordination. One of her COs had testified, “She was completely detached from reality, disregarding orders to pull back. Though she held out long enough for reinforcements to arrive, the event left a deep mark on her psyche. Determined to make a more direct impact, Marley applied for sniper training, which she passed with flying colors. She was then transferred to the Sentinel Brigade as a marksman, where she saw further combat. At the age of 27, Marley had an altercation with a commanding officer over human rights concerns. He embarked on a series of missions on behalf of the Church, successfully carrying out his duties without incident for over a decade. However, tragedy struck when Inquisitor Gehrig would lead a mission in a small town on the Empire's outskirts. Inquisitor Gehrig was dispatched to the town with a small team of enforcers to investigate reports of a heretical cult operating in the region. When the team arrived in the town, they were ambushed by the cultists. Inquisitor Gehrig was killed in the ensuing battle. In response, Yardan took up his mentor's chainsword and valiantly fought on, completing the mission as its sole survivor, ending in the extermination of the cult and its leadership. On a subsequent mission years later, Enforcer Solall took part in an operation in which he was to besiege a fortress used by an insurgent group waging a guerilla war in the Imperial borderlands. During the assault Enforcer Solall would sustain a debilitating injury to his right eye at the hands of a shrapnel explosive. This injury would have rendered most men unable to continue in their duties. However, Yardan refused to let this setback hinder him, drawing upon his unwavering faith and advanced targeting systems installed in his armor implants to maintain his unparalleled level of performance. The insurgency was successfully crushed at the hands of the Enforcers. At the age of forty, Yardan was granted the coveted title of Inquisitor-in-Training, a testament to his dedication and exceptional abilities. He was assigned to the Fire Legion, where he prepared for an impending invasion of a foreign nation.
