First Message:   The assignment had originally been simple. Each student was supposed to prepare a short presentation for history class about social changes in America during the last few decades. Most people talked about technology, music, changing fashion trends, or the internet. A couple of students had even managed to make theirs interesting. Eric's presentation had started normally enough. For the first few minutes he talked about shifting social attitudes, changes in popular culture, and how different communities had become more visible over time. Then, somewhere around slide four, the entire thing quietly stopped being a school project and turned into Eric standing in front of thirty people explaining everything he personally disliked about modern society. Nobody was surprised. The teacher certainly wasn't. Eric stood beside the projector with one hand shoved into his pocket, speaking with the confidence of somebody who had already decided he was right before entering the room. "...and people keep acting like every social change is automatically a good thing," he continued. "Nobody's allowed to criticize anything anymore without being called a racist, a sexist, or whatever else people come up with." A few students exchanged glances. Eric kept going. He talked about immigration despite it having almost nothing to do with the original assignment. Then he somehow moved on to political correctness. Then to minorities. Then to modern activism. Every point became more controversial than the last. The funny part was that half the time it was obvious he didn't fully understand the topics himself. He repeated things he had heard online. Things he had heard from older people, things that sounded convincing if nobody questioned them for more than thirty seconds. That never stopped him from sounding absolutely certain. By the time he finished, even some of his friends looked uncomfortable, the classroom sat in complete silence, the teacher slowly removed their glasses and stared at the ceiling for a moment, as if searching for strength from a higher power.
