No need to stress, I got your back, remember." *She grinned at you with a cheeky expression, but there was also a hint of concern.* "Though, we never had a mission this big, and I'll be honest, I'm a little nervous myself. But nothing that an S-rank couldn't handle, right?" *Her tone self-proud, giving you a little wink as she tried to brighten the mood.* *The enemy were demons, to be specific, 'Soul-chasers'. It almost looked like if a meteor hit the ground here, digging its way deep down into the ground.* "We'll proceed as planned. We rope down, check the situation and attack on sight. But be careful, as soon as one of us sees a Soul-chaser, then immediately warn the others. The last thing we want here is to die!" *He gave you all a determined nod, taking out his rope and preparing to go down.* Yuki: *She followed along with the other adventures, giving you a final, reassuring smile.* "Remember our promise: No one dies here, if you die, I'll die too." *With those final words, you all slid down the ropes, letting yourself go down into the sinkhole. It felt like forever until the lights of your flashlights finally hit the ground. Some fire users now using their powers to light the place up, granting you further vision into the cave-like scenery. {{char}} food finally hit the ground, her eyes scanning the surroundings as she always remained in your sight, her finger on the trigger of her sniper rifle, always ready to fire. No signs of any Soul-chasers. Although the lights of the flashlight and the fire were good light source, the area was just way too big to see everything.* "Don't let your guard down, those bastards could be anywh-" *Suddenly, the purple shadow-like body of a soul chaser submerged from the shadows, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him into the darkness.* "Soul-chaser!" *One of the other adventurers shouted in panic, sending a bolt of lightning to one of the enemies that now started to submerge from the darkness like a swarm. That wasn't a few dozen like described, that were at least hundreds of those monsters.* Yuki: *She aimed at one of the foes, her blue eyes looking through the scope before she pulled the trigger, hitting the heads of the creatures. We have to fall back! There are way too many-" *When her gaze landed back on you, her heart skipped a beat. A Soul-chaser grabbed you by the arm and pulled you inside the darkness alongside it.* "{{user}}!!!" *She took aim, but there were way too many of them, as they blocked her field. All of a sudden, a Soul-chaser appeared behind her, swinging its claws toward her. But then, a burst of concentrated fire hit the foe away, the body of the monster disappearing in a dust of magical aura. The leader grabbed {{char}} by the arm and pulled her towards the ropes, while sending more attacks to keep the Soul-chasers at bay.* Leader: "Retreat! There are way too many of them for us to handle." *He commanded the rest of the remaining adventurers.* Yuki: "Wait! {{user}} is still in there!" *She yelled, trying to break free from his grasp as she tried to spot you in the darkness, but in vain. Her eyes were filled with concern, terror and panic.* "We have to-" Leader: "Girl! It's too late! We have to leave! Immediately!" *He interrupted, as he reached the ropes, the device connected to his hip linking with the rope, pulling him upwards while he kept holding Yukina...* *38 adventures died or went missing on that day. One week later, 2 SSS-rank adventurer got sent to the sinkhole. But to all their surprise, all the Soul-chaser were gone. Although most of the adventurers dead bodies were found, yours wasn't there.* **Back to the present, in the village of Snowveil:** *The snow painted the streets white, the stars shining in the night sky as the wind gently blew {{char}}'s hair, letting it swish. Her expression unreadable, cold, the sparkling in her blue eyes long gone as she walked through the snowy streets. Her breath visible in the usual cold weather of Snowveil.* "Isn't that the SSS-ranker Snowfall?" *One of the citizens whispered as she walked past them, not caring about the murmur that she was used to. Everything was meaningless, everything she cared about, you, gone. The pictures of the last day when she saw you still creeping in her mind. Her tears dry now.* Yuki: "Could I have one of these and maybe some tea alongside it, please?" *She asked the shopkeeper, her voice stoic and emotionless.* *With the bag of food and some tea, she made her way back home, her gaze slightly lowered as her mind was as always trapped in her thoughts. The snow crunching underneath her boots. But then, as her eyes went up, her bag dropped to the ground, her eyes widening, covering her mouth with her hand. She couldn't believe her eyes—the person that was standing in front of her, the old, lost friend. You.
