Alejandro and Rodolfo are sent on a mission to Pandora, a lush alien world. Their task? Help the RDA deal with the native Na’vi, who are resisting human operations. After going through the necessary training, the team are able to use Avatar bodies— genetically engineered Na’vi forms controlled through a special link.

After waking up from nearly six years in cryosleep, they arrive on Pandora. Adjusting to their new bodies, they begin their mission— helping the scientists gather their sample.

As they move through the dense forest, they soon realize they're not alone.

They rush to head back to the helicopter, but find three Na'vi soldiers blocking their path.

—— FIRST . MESSAGE ——

The briefing room felt different this time.

Alejandro had attended countless mission briefings throughout his career with Los Vaqueros, but nothing quite like this. The holographic display in the center of the room showed not a cartel compound or terrorist hideout, but an entire world— lush, alien, and pulsing with bioluminescent life.

"Pandora," the RDA liaison announced, gesturing toward the rotating planet. "Home to the largest deposit of unobtainium in known space, and unfortunately, home to the Na'vi."

Alejandro leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. Beside him, Rodolfo shifted uncomfortably, his usually calm demeanor showing cracks of uncertainty. They'd been through hell together— fought cartels, survived betrayals, protected their homeland. But this? This was different.

"With respect, señora (miss)," Alejandro spoke up, his accent thick with skepticism. "Los Vaqueros are specialized in anti-cartel operations. Why are we being deployed to fight... Aliens?"

The woman, Dr. Martinez according to her nameplate, pulled up new images. Towering blue humanoids filled the screen— Na'vi warriors with fierce yellow eyes and traditional weapons that looked primitive but deadly.

"Because, Colonel Vargas, conventional RDA security forces have proven... Inadequate. The Na'vi know their terrain better than we know ours. They're organized, intelligent, and utterly committed to protecting their world." She paused, letting the weight of her words settle. "We need soldiers who understand guerrilla warfare, who can adapt and overcome hostile territory."

Rodolfo leaned forward. "And how exactly do we fight ten-foot-tall aliens in a jungle we've never seen?"

Dr. Martinez smiled grimly. "You don't fight them as humans. You fight them as Na'vi."

---

The Avatar program explanation took three hours. Alejandro found himself both fascinated and disturbed by the concept— consciousness transfer into genetically engineered alien bodies. It was science fiction made reality, and despite his years of military service, it challenged everything he thought he knew about warfare.

Aliens?" "And how exactly do we fight ten-foot-tall aliens in a jungle we've never seen?" Dr. Martinez smiled grimly. "You don't fight them as humans. You fight them as Na'vi." --- The Avatar program explanation took three hours. Alejandro found himself both fascinated and disturbed by the concept— consciousness transfer into genetically engineered alien bodies. It was science fiction made reality, and despite his years of military service, it challenged everything he thought he knew about warfare. "Think of it as the ultimate undercover operation," Dr. Martinez explained as she led them through the laboratory. Rows of tanks filled with blue, humanoid forms floated in bio-fluid. "Your Avatar bodies are grown from Na'vi DNA mixed with your own genetic material. When linked, you control them as naturally as your birth body." Alejandro stopped in front of one tank, staring at what would become his Avatar. The face was unmistakably his— the same strong jawline, the same determined expression— but blue-skinned and marked with the distinctive patterns of the Na'vi. "Esto es increíble… (This is incredible…)" He murmured, more to himself than anyone else. Rodolfo appeared beside him, studying his own Avatar with a mixture of awe and unease. "It looks like you, hermano (brother). Just... Alien." "We are the aliens here, Rudy." Alejandro replied quietly. "Never forget that." The training was intensive. Weeks of simulations, learning to move in bodies that were both familiar and foreign. Alejandro's Avatar was taller, stronger, more agile than his human form. The tail took getting used to, but he found it provided excellent balance during combat maneuvers. His senses were sharper— he could hear conversations from across the facility, smell things with startling clarity. "Your reflexes are impressive, Colonel." One of the trainers noted after a particularly challenging obstacle course. "Most trainees take months to achieve this level of coordination." Alejandro nodded, wiping sweat from his blue brow. "I've had good teachers." He glanced toward Rodolfo, who was struggling with a climbing exercise. Despite his difficulties, Rudy never gave up, never complained. It was one of the many reasons Alejandro trusted him with his life. During their downtime, they would sit together in the recreation area, still getting used to their Avatar forms. "Do you ever think about what we're really doing here?" Rodolfo asked one evening, his voice barely above a whisper. Alejandro was quiet for a long moment. "Every day, hermano. Every day." "The Na'vi... They're not cartels. They're not terrorists. They're defending their home." "Sí (Yes)." Alejandro's jaw tightened. "But our orders are clear. We're here to protect human interests, to ensure the mining operations continue." "And if that means displacing an entire population?" Alejandro met his friend's eyes. "Then we do our job. But we do it with honor, Rudy. We don't become monsters just because we're following orders." --- The cryosleep chambers were intimidating— sleek metal pods arranged in precise rows. Alejandro stood before his assigned pod, running his hand along its smooth surface. The technician was explaining the process, but his mind was elsewhere, thinking about home, about Las Almas, about the men and women of Los Vaqueros who would continue the fight without them. "Nearly six years," Rodolfo said, stepping up beside him. "By the time we wake up, everything will be different." "Not everything," Alejandro replied firmly. "We'll still be brothers. We'll still have each other's backs." Rodolfo smiled— the first genuine smile Alejandro had seen from him since they'd accepted this assignment. "Sí, hermano (Yes, brother). Always." They climbed into their respective pods, the cool metal sending a chill through Alejandro's spine. The lid sealed with a soft hiss, and the last thing he saw was the gentle glow of the overhead display counting down to sleep. Then— darkness. --- **5 Years, 9 Months, 22 Days** Consciousness returned slowly, like surfacing from deep water. Alejandro's body felt stiff, alien, wrong. His muscles ached in ways he'd never experienced, and nausea rolled through his stomach in waves. The pod's lid retracted with a mechanical whir, and harsh light flooded his vision. "Mierda (Shit)," He groaned, trying to sit up and immediately regretting it. "Tell me about it," Came Rodolfo's voice from the adjacent pod. "I feel like I've been hit by a truck." A medic approached with nutrient packs and water. "Take it slow, gentlemen. Your bodies need time to adjust. We'll be in Pandora's orbit within the hour." Alejandro forced himself upright, accepting the offered sustenance. Around them, other soldiers were going through the same process— Task Force 141 was nearby, looking equally disoriented. He recognized Graves and his fucking Shadows, a few other units he didn't know. "Five years, nine months," Rodolfo said, reading from a display. "Cristo (Christ), Alejandro. We actually did it." Alejandro nodded, staring out the viewport at the massive blue-green world below. Pandora. Their new battlefield. --- The Link Room was a marvel of technology— dozens of sleek pods designed to bridge the gap between human consciousness and Na'vi flesh. Alejandro lay back in his assigned pod, electrodes attached to his temples, monitoring his vital signs. "Remember, Colonel," Dr. Martinez said through the intercom, "The transition can be disorienting. Your Avatar body will feel different— stronger, more agile, but also more sensitive to the environment." "Understood," Alejandro replied, closing his eyes as the pod sealed shut. The shift was instantaneous and profound. One moment he was human, lying in a cramped metal pod— the next, he was standing in the Avatar compound, ten feet tall and breathing the rich air of Pandora. His senses exploded with new information—the jungle's symphony of sounds, the complex interweaving of scents, the way light filtered through the canopy. Rodolfo stumbled nearby, steadying himself against a wall. "This is... incredible." Alejandro flexed his hands, marveling at the increased strength and dexterity. His tail moved instinctively, maintaining his balance as he took his first steps. Everything felt more vivid, more alive. "Welcome to Pandora, Rudy." He said with a grin. --- Their first mission briefing took place in a sterile conference room that felt increasingly cramped now that half the attendees were ten-foot-tall blue aliens. Alejandro sat with his arms crossed, studying the holographic map of their deployment zone, while Rodolfo shifted uncomfortably in his chair beside him. "Primary objective is resource survey and security in Grid 7-A," The mission commander explained, pointing to a section of dense jungle on the display. "We need geological samples from three specific coordinates, and we need them without Na'vi interference." Alejandro raised his hand. "Rules of engagement?" "Minimal force. We're trying to avoid escalation. Use your Avatar abilities to blend in, gather intelligence, and only engage if absolutely necessary." The plan was straightforward— helicopter insertion, secure the area, allow the science team to collect their samples, and extract. Simple missions were often the most dangerous, Alejandro knew. Too many variables, too many things that could go wrong. "Colonel Vargas, Sergeant Parra," The commander continued, "You’ll be providing joint security for Dr. Chen's geological team. Your experience in guerrilla warfare and your Avatar capabilities make you ideal for this terrain." Alejandro nodded, relieved they wouldn't be separated. "Understood, sir. What's our intelligence on Na'vi activity in the area?" "Limited. Satellite imagery shows possible movement patterns, but the canopy cover makes confirmation difficult. Assume you're being watched from the moment you touch down." --- The helicopter's rotors churned through Pandora's thick atmosphere as they approached the drop zone. Alejandro sat by the open doorway, his enhanced senses picking up details the human pilots couldn't detect— the subtle changes in air pressure, the complex chemical signatures of the jungle below, the almost musical quality of wind through the alien vegetation. Rodolfo sat across from him, checking and rechecking his equipment with nervous energy. Between them, the three scientists huddled together—Dr. Chen, the lead geologist, looked pale, while Dr. Park and Dr. Santos whispered quietly about their sample collection procedures. "Two minutes to drop!" The pilot called back. Alejandro studied the jungle canopy rushing past below. From the air, it looked peaceful, almost inviting. But his enhanced hearing picked up the complex symphony of alien life— calls and responses that could be natural or could be communication. On Pandora, it was impossible to tell the difference. "Stay close," He told the scientists. "This terrain looks peaceful, but the Na'vi are expert guerrilla fighters. They could be anywhere." "The trees," Rodolfo added, pointing to the massive trunks that towered hundreds of feet above the forest floor. "Perfect sniper positions. We'll be exposed the moment we hit the ground." Dr. Chen swallowed nervously. "How long do we need at each site?" "Fifteen minutes maximum," Dr. Park replied. "Core samples and basic geological survey." "Then we move fast," Alejandro decided. "No lingering, no unnecessary risks. Get in, get your samples, get out." The helicopter touched down in a small clearing, rotors still spinning. Alejandro jumped out first, rifle ready, scanning the massive trees that formed walls around their landing zone. Rodolfo followed immediately, moving to cover the opposite direction while the scientists gathered their equipment. The pilot kept the engines running— a good sign. It meant he was as nervous as they were. "Perimeter secure," Rodolfo reported, but his voice carried tension. Alejandro nodded, though something felt wrong. His enhanced senses were picking up subtle disturbances— broken branches at unusual heights, disturbed undergrowth that showed signs of recent passage, scent markers that didn't belong to any Earth animal. "First site is two hundred meters northeast." Dr. Chen said, consulting her tablet. "I'll take point," Alejandro announced. "Rudy, rear guard. Scientists in the middle. We move quiet and fast." They entered the jungle in formation, leaving the helicopter's comforting noise behind. The forest enveloped them immediately— not just the visual canopy above, but the acoustic environment that seemed to pulse with its own life. Every step forward felt like intruding into a sacred space. Alejandro moved with careful precision, his Avatar body adapting naturally to the alien terrain. Behind him, he could hear the scientists' heavier breathing, their equipment clinking softly despite their attempts at stealth. Rodolfo brought up the rear, his footsteps so quiet they were barely audible even to Alejandro's enhanced hearing. "Contact," Rodolfo whispered into his radio. Alejandro froze, hand raised to halt the group. "Where?" "Trees. Eleven o'clock, maybe forty meters up. Movement." Alejandro slowly turned his head, scanning the massive branches above. There— a shadow that didn't belong, gone almost as soon as he spotted it. "They're watching us…" He murmured. "More than one," Rodolfo confirmed. "I count at least three different positions." Dr. Chen looked terrified. "Should we abort?" Alejandro considered it. They were clearly outnumbered, in unfamiliar territory, with civilians to protect. But they also had a mission to complete. "We continue," He decided. "But we do it knowing we have an audience. No sudden movements, no aggressive postures. We're scientists, not soldiers." Even as he said it, he knew it was a lie. They were soldiers pretending to be scientists, and the Na'vi watching them probably knew it too. They reached the first sampling site— a rocky outcropping that broke through the jungle floor. Dr. Chen immediately began her work, using a sonic drill to extract core samples while Dr. Park and Dr. Santos took readings with various instruments. The feeling of being watched intensified. Alejandro could see them now— blue figures moving through the canopy with impossible grace, staying just at the edge of visibility. They weren't hiding anymore. They were making their presence known. "Fifteen minutes." He reminded the scientists. "I need at least twenty for a proper sample." Dr. Chen protested. "You have ten." Rodolfo said firmly, his rifle tracking movement in the trees above. A sound echoed through the forest— not quite animal, not quite human. It was answered by similar calls from different directions. The Na'vi were communicating, coordinating. "Time's up," Alejandro announced. "Pack it up. We're leaving. Now." "But the samples—" "Now!" As they began to retreat, the forest around them seemed to come alive. Not with hostility, but with a kind of awakening. Bioluminescent patterns raced along tree trunks, pulsing in rhythms that felt almost like speech. And then they appeared. Na'vi warriors materialized from the jungle as if they'd been part of it all along. Tall, graceful, armed with bows that looked primitive but deadly. They didn't attack— they simply stood there, blocking the path back to the helicopter. Alejandro raised his hand slowly, palm open. "We're not here to fight."
