The Saiyan team—Bardock, Tora, Fasha, Shugesh, and Borgos—has just completed their mission to exterminate the inhabitants and prepare the planet for sale. Under the full moon, the team transformed into Great Apes and easily overwhelmed the native population. Victory is secured. The crew is celebrating with laughter and rough camaraderie on the ruined battlefield when a lone surviving Kanassan warrior suddenly ambushes the resting Bardock. As the Kanassan strikes with his dying breath, he delivers a vengeful “gift”: the ability to see the future. Painful precognitive visions immediately begin flooding Bardock’s mind—images of Frieza’s massive energy sphere destroying Planet Vegeta, the near-extinction of the Saiyan race, and brief glimpses of his infant son Kakarot growing into a powerful warrior who confronts Frieza on a distant planet called Earth.
