Marcy Regina Wu is a major supporting character of Amphibia. She is a 13-year-old Taiwanese-American human girl who is best friends with Anne and Sasha, attending Saint James Middle School together.
Personality: Marcy is a friendly, geeky, intelligent, resourceful, and intellectual girl; she's always shown intently researching various subjects and taking notes. She has always received straight A's in school, implying her above average intelligence, except for Gym due to her reading during her class. She is curious and takes interest in different cultures, being the one who discovered the Calamity Box. She is also intuitive, as she is seen reusing her school outfit to craft new wear and using her skills in Amphibian biology to defeat a group of Barbari-Ants, which had invaded the outskirts of Newtopia. Anne mentioned she was oblivious because she was "unaware of her surroundings." Nonetheless, back home, Marcy was insanely clumsy and very oblivious. This causes her to be heavily reliant on her friendsโAnne and even Sasha constantly feel the need to look out for her, and she relies on Sasha to make decisions for her. In Amphibia, she has learned to manage herself better, and make independent decisions on her own without any influence from other people, although she is still fairly clumsy and sometimes dependent on Anne. In Amphibia , her social obliviousness is shown to be detrimental, as in the episode "New Wartwood," she constantly tries to make Wartwood like her, and falls victim to Toadstool's manipulation into "reshaping" the town, only for it to be flooded as a result. The same episode also shows that she has a strong emotional desire for acceptance from other people, and will go through great lengths just to get them to like her and gets restless and impatient when they don't.Marcy is an avid fan of retro video games. Prior to being teleported into Amphibia, she was seen with a game system very similar to the Nintendo Switch. When she met the Plantars, she offered them a copy of a game called Vagabondia Chronicles, and she also likes table-top RPGs such as DnD. Back home, she wanted Anne and Sasha to play a DnD, (Dragons and Dungeons)-like game called Creatures and Caverns. Marcy considers farm culture under-appreciated and farmers like Hop Pop the "backbone of society." She continuously displays strong interest in every aspect of Amphibia, even trying to analyze the Plantars' family home. Despite her positive disposition, Marcy has the capacity for selfishness, which manifests through her negative traits, particularly her obliviousness and her overconfidence. The self-focused nature of such holds sway over Marcy's grasp of sense and sympathy, having a hazardous effect on herself and those around her, as portrayed in "The First Temple," especially in her ability to strategize and utilize her intelligence; her obsessive focus and hyper fixations on her interests, to the point of failing to notice when her friends or she herself are in danger; and her unwillingness to intervene in friends' arguments, ignoring them completely in the hopes that they will resolve it themselves. This side of herself was closely influenced by her friendship with Sasha and Anne, since the two did not connect to Marcy's interests; Anne would interpret Marcy's actions were because Anne and Sasha ignored her interests and needs, making her feel isolated and therefore desperate to keep them together. Apart from these, the most critical display of her tendency to put her interests before others came to pass in "True Colors"; Marcy not only knew about the Calamity Box, but was responsible for the girls' transference to Amphibia from the start, in order to keep her, Anne, and Sasha together forever. While having sympathetic intentions, genuinely treasuring her friends and not wishing to be alone, Marcy's one-track thinking, not taking into consideration how her friends felt and how she took them away from their own lives and families, led to her friends rejecting her. Even when she was called out on the deception, Marcy nearly failed to see the error of her ways, denying that her actions were selfish until this cost her the trust of both of Anne and Sasha. Despite this revelation, Marcy still protected her friends afterward, with her last act prior to being impaled being sending Anne back home and apologizing for everything she did to Anne. In "All In", after the Core's mindscape generates faux, blindly-obedient simulations of Anne and Sasha, Marcy comes to realize that even though it hurts that her friends don't necessarily share the same interests as her, forcing them to live out her interests was selfish of her. Following her release from the Core's control, Marcy apologizes to Anne and Sasha in remorse, and afterward, vows to be considerate of others. One day, she was studying for the SATs in the library when she receives a text from Sasha reminding her it was Anne's birthday. As she was about to leave, Marcy notices a mysterious book the librarian drops called Dr. P's Extraordinary Guide To Magic & Mystery and reads through the book, which contains notes about a magical music box that can transport people to other worlds. Marcy mocks the book's contents before receiving another message from her father to come home immediately, as they had something important to discuss. When Marcy arrives at home, she learns that her father got a new job out of state, and her family would have to move. Devastated about leaving her friends behind, Marcy runs out of the house in tears. Arriving in town and coming across a thrift store, Marcy recognizes a music box the shop is selling as the same one from the book at the library. She then receives another message from Sasha, who is with Anne, asking where she is. Sparked with inspiration, Marcy sends Sasha a picture of a magical music box for Anne's 13th birthday, declaring it as a present for Anne and arranges them to meet at the thrift store. Marcy waits with Sasha outside while Sasha tricks Anne into going inside to steal the music box. The three friends then went to a park to investigate the chest. The girls are taken to the realm of Amphibia as soon as the chest was opened, but they are separated into three different locations. Marcy is teleported to the city of Newtopia, and almost immediately she injures herself when she loses her balance off a flight of stairs. After being discovered by the residents of Newtopia, she is taken to the hospital and recovers with only a broken leg, where Lady Olivia properly welcomes her to Amphibia.[16] When Lady Olivia brought her to the Castle Marcy ran aound wanting to explore it. However, when she arrived in the throne room, she was surprised to meet King Andrias, even asking if she called him "drias", only to find it too personal. She then climb up on him to see if she can fit in his robe pocket, which she did. She then gave him a small robot pin as a gift. Andrias liked it and made her his guest, she even told him that she's looking for her friends: Anne and Sasha, but Andrias promised to look for them. Lady Olivia later took her to her quarters. Being grateful for the Newts taking her in, Marcy promises to do her part by helping the city grow. She rapidly garners a positive reputation in Newtopia, from developing plans to improve Newtopia's infrastructure and architecture to being promoted to chief ranger of the Newtopian Night Guard. She soon gains a high rank within the royal court as the close aide of King Andrias. Little does she know, Andrias harbors a dark secret about himself and is plotting to undo an ancient prophecy which involves the girls charging the Calamity Box's gems. At some point, while she was playing a game of Flipwart with Andrias, Marcy confesses to him that she purposely intended to use the box to go on adventures with Anne and Sasha forever. Marcy Regina Wu is a major supporting character of Amphibia. She is a 13-year-old Taiwanese-American human girl who is best friends with Anne and Sasha, attending Saint James Middle School together. On Anne's 13th birthday, she read about the Calamity Box and its powers, and ended up discovering it after an argument with her parents over her refusal to move out of Los Angeles. When Anne opened the box, Marcy, along with Anne and Sasha, was teleported to Amphibia. Marcy was warped within the walls of Newtopia and was promoted to Chief Ranger of the Newtopian Night Guard, where she worked directly for King Andrias of Amphibia. She represented the green gem of Wit on the Calamity Box. She made a deal with Andrias to give him the box with the reloaded gems for his plans to go to other worlds, in exchange for him taking her, Anne, and Sasha with him, without knowing the king's true intentions. Sometime later, Anne and Sasha learned that Marcy was the one who discovered the Calamity Box and informed Sasha about it with knowledge about its power before it sent her, Anne, and Sasha to Amphibia, making her the one responsible for sending the three girls there. Marcy later turned against Andrias and assisted Anne in the battle for the Calamity Box, but in the process, Andrias impaled Marcy with his sword, though not before she dropped the charged-up music box, which sent Anne and the Plantars to Earth. Following this, and during Andrias' invasion plan of Earth, Marcy remained in a comatose state of recuperation to heal her injuries. She was freed by Lady Olivia and General Yunan, but their efforts to rebel are ultimately in vain when Andrias captures them; and Marcy becomes the unwilling host of the Newtopian artificial intelligence and the true master of Andrias, the Core, combining the two into the identity known as Darcy. With Marcy trapped by the Core's mental blockage, Darcy proceeded with the invasion of Earth in full force. However, Darcy and the invasion were thwarted when battling Sasha, who managed to use her sword to sever the cord connected to their helmet, freeing Marcy from the Core's control. After the Core-corrupted red moon begins to fall to Amphibia, Marcy, Anne, and Sasha gain the powers of the Calamity Gems to defeat the Core once and for all. After the battle, Anne received remnant gem shards to open one last portal that would return the girls to Earth. Marcy says her final goodbyes to Andrias and the newts before returning home to LA alongside Anne and Sasha. After a few weeks of recovering, Marcy and her parents moved to Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Marcy is a Taiwanese-American[4] teenage girl who is tall (but noticeably shorter than Anne and Sasha) and slim. She has olive skin, short, shiny black hair, and dark brown oval eyes. After being in Amphibia for about five months, her hair has become visibly grown out and messier. Since "True Colors," Marcy has had a hole in her chest due to Andrias stabbing her. It has healed during the Core's occupation of her body, but it left a scar on her chest. According to her journal the scar faded into a white mark. In Amphibia, Marcy wears a faded blue hooded cape, complete with a white-furred collar that is held together with a pink shell. She also wears a brown metal chest plate with a light gray t-shirt underneath, a stitched skirt, and grey winter snow boots that are wrapped with studded straps. Marcy has gray fingerless gloves on each of her hands; moreover, her signature primary weapon seems to be a hand-mounted crossbow (which can fold its two limbs and hide an arrow when not in use) that is fitted onto her right forearm. Marcy later returns to wearing it after being freed from the Core's control.
