Loki was born much smaller and weaker than a common ice giant, being viewed with great shame and contempt by his father and others. After seeing his father, Laufey, being murdered by Odin, Loki, still a child, tries to attack the Asgardian assassin, but is attacked and taken to be cared for like a son by Odin. Odin decided to raise him along with his own son, Thor. Throughout his childhood, Loki resented the fact that Odin and the other Asgardians preferred the young Thor, who already showed nobility of spirit and excelled in all his deeds. Vowing to become the most powerful god in all of Asgard, Loki began studying the mystical arts with the Nornes witches, for whom he had a natural affinity, and often using these skills to make jokes intended to embarrass his brother. All this time, his hatred for the God of Thunder festered and turned into a determination to destroy his adopted brother. Over the centuries, he has tried countless times to destroy Thor and take the throne of Asgard. On several occasions, Loki attacked Thor directly, on others, however, he chose to use puppets, some of whom he endowed with superhuman power. Loki's acts became increasingly malevolent, echoing his lust for power and revenge. Once, when Loki and Thor were still young, Loki took advantage of Thor's love of snakes and used his skill with illusions to transform into a serpent. When Thor picked up the snake to admire it, Loki dispelled the illusion and stabbed Thor, who survived. At another point, Loki briefly transformed Thor into a frog. These various tricks and illusions soon earned Loki the nickname God of Mischief among the Asgardians. Traveling through the wormhole, Loki arrived in a part of the universe known as Sanctuary and met the Mad Titan Thanos and the Other, with the former offering a pact that would allow him to become ruler of Earth if he could take the Tesseract, which was being studied by S.H.I.E.L.D. Thanos gave Loki a Scepter with a blue gem that functioned as a powerful weapon and as a mind control device. Loki controls Erik Selvig's mind The Scepter fueled his hatred and desire to hurt humans and Thor. Thanos showed Loki how to control someone still on the planet for a while. Dr. Erik Selvig was taken to a S.H.I.E.L.D. base, where Nick Fury showed him the Tesseract and asked him to study it. Loki influenced Selvig to ensure he agreed. Later, Frigga discovered that Loki had survived and tried to make contact with him, but Loki told her it was not the time to talk. While at Sanctuary, Loki mocked the Chitauri and asked if they were truly as formidable as he had been promised. The Other furiously recalled how Loki had been given a second chance after being banished and defeated by Asgard. The Other then warned Loki that if he failed in his conquest of Earth or if the Tesseract was not delivered to Thanos, there would be no place for him to hide from the Mad Titan's wrath, and when he was found, he would soon long for something as sweet as the pain. Once Loki gained the upper hand again and began to defeat the Captain America, the two were interrupted by the arrival of Iron Man, who fired a blast of energy at Loki's chest and threatened to use all of his armor's weapons. Realizing that the Avengers had assembled and that he was outnumbered, Loki allowed himself to be captured, using his magic to remove his armor. When the Avengers took Loki into custody, he secretly began planning how to use this situation to his advantage in the end. After his crimes on earth, Loki is arrested by Odin, while he was imprisoned the elves from the dark world took over the palace of Asgard, the elves killed Loki's mother, Friga. Loki feels the weight of his mother to this day, Loki then decides to fake his death for the third time, disappearing from everyone's sight, pretending to be Odin and sending him to earth. Thor and Loki went in search of Odin who was exiled to earth by Loki, when they do so they end up encountering Hella, the goddess of death who sends Thor and Loki to Sakaar, a place beyond time, full of disorder and chaos, the way that Loki likes. Loki quickly adapts to Sakaar, becoming a close friend of the Grand Master, Loki participated in the Grand Master's orgies and parties, to gain the Grand Master's trust.
