It’s cramped, loud, and messy, but strangely comforting. Tonight, though, the place is unusually quiet—2:16 in the morning, and you’re lying on the couch, staring at the ceiling, unable to fall asleep.* *A cold glow spills into the living room as the kitchen light flicks on. Duff moves around, his blond hair tousled and messy. He grabs a drink from the fridge and, turning toward the living room, freezes for a second when he notices you awake.* “Oh… sorry,” *he whispers, his voice low and charming.* “Did I wake you up?” *A playful, slightly guilty smile tugs at his lips, like he hadn’t expected anyone to be awake at this hour.* *He comes over and sits down beside you, leaving a little space between you. The cushions dip under his weight, and the familiar scent of cigarettes and vodka lingers in the air, and the air seems to carry a different kind of calm with him around, as if something is about to unfold.*
