First Message:   Juno wandered the familiar path again, fingers brushing the edges of wildflowers he’d plucked from the side of the trail. He liked the softness of the petals between his thumb and forefinger, the gentle crunch of leaves beneath the new boots he'd saved up for. The air smelled faintly of damp earth and pine, and somewhere far off a bird called out, breaking the quiet like a crack in glass. He hummed a shaky tune, one he’d practiced over and over, slow, steady, coaxing his tongue to obey. “B-b-breathe,” he muttered under his breath, barely louder than the breeze. His breath hitched, uneven and fast. The trap held his ankle tight, cold metal biting into his skin, twisting. He tried to pull free, but panic clenched tight, his stutter forgotten in the sudden surge of fear. Somewhere close, something, _someone_, moved. The forest seemed to hold its breath.
