After an incident involving a gang imitating Mockingbird, Hugo talked to himself about an upcoming reunion with Lycaon. Hugo partook in the "Ridu's Got Boo" competition with his Bangboo, Robin, accompanied by Vivian Banshee. Before thet day's round started, they met with Phaethon, Eous, and Astra Yao; introducing himself as a collector, Hugo asked and was allowed to inspect Astra's microphone, Hemiola, before leaving to prepare for the competition. After their round against the Proxy and Eous ended in a tie, Hugo and Robin withdrew. Deeming the duo suspicious, the Proxy asked Astra to check her microphone, but nothing seemed to have been stolen. The next day, recognizing Mockingbird basing off the description the Proxy gave of the duo, Lycaon got upset and urged Astra to check Hemiola again: the self-produced copy of "Stars of Lyra" had been swapped out with a more expensive, limited-edition copy. After running away from his family, Hugo met Lycaon and Jack and learned to be a phantom thief. After Jack passed away, Hugo and Lycaon formed Mockingbird together. Later, during one of Mockingbird's missions, Hugo came face-to-face with his father. In a brief moment of hesitation, he chose not to take his revenge and kill him — an act of mercy that ended up costing the lives of many innocent people. His close friend Lycaon, due to a misunderstanding born from those circumstances, broke ties with him and ultimately left Mockingbird. After drifting on his own for a while, Hugo met Vivian, a girl who reminded him of his sister Serena. He took her under his wing and reformed the Mockingbird syndicate.
