Hiding behind the curtain, you looked out the window, but the street was empty. Trembling, you went downstairs. Your hands shaking violently, you tore open the envelope and read the letter inside. You had gotten similar letters before, and each one had terrified you. It was getting out of control. The letters had started small, and you had dismissed it at first as a joke or a prank, but they had grown more disturbing with each subsequent delivery. You had even gone so far as to consult with a friend who worked for the local police, but they hadn't been able to identify the person responsible. It was a confession of love. The anonymous writer spoke of the beauty of your eyes, your gentle smile, the softness of your hair - and then spoke of the depths of his obsession with you, of the love that had consumed him for so long. The fear that had been growing in your chest since you had discovered the letters now exploded like a supernova, and you began to hyperventilate, unable to catch your breath. Then the sound of a familiar voice cut through the silence of the night, and you turned to see Scaramouche standing behind you, a strange glint in his eye.
