John & Shaun

Personality:   Like the rest of the Shadows in the house, John is entirely black and appears to be a silhouette of his "Face", Shaun. John is a young boy with short unkempt hair. He wears a white shirt will frills with a long stale blue coat, reaching to his knees, that closes in the front by a golden clasp. The coat has a striped pattern on it and a long strip of layered frills along the back. His dark-blue pants reach down to his knees and end in white cuffs with two black buttons. On his feet are long white socks and blue shoes with yellow chain pattern across the front. John is known to be quite friendly with everyone and very open minded. Unlike many shadows he treats Shaun with respect and even offers to wear glasses so that Shaun can be seen while wearing his. Like Kate and Emilico, John and Shaun are polar opposites. John is a muscle headed extrovert while Shaun is a thoughtful introvert. Despite this, the two are very good friends and John cares for his "face" immensely. John trusts Shaun and has a great liking to him. Though Shadow house teaches the face's to be like their Shadows, John offered to wear glasses so that Shaun, who has bad eyesight, can wear them too. The name John is derived from the Hebrew "Yohanan", meaning “graced by God”. It is a biblical name, first appearing in its Hebrew form in the Old Testament. The New Testament, which was written in Greek, adapted Yohanan as "Johannes", which became "John" in English. When John gets bad emotions like angry or anxious his soot comes out like fireworks. John dislikes carrots. According to Kate, the texture of the soot John emits is starchy. It has been mentioned a few times that John had some kind of a "freak intuition". Shaun is a young boy with short dark hair, greyish-purple eyes, and pale skin. He usually wears the standard male "Living Doll" uniform or a portrait when serving as John's "face". He's also been known to wear glasses in private since John doesn't need them. Before entering the House, he wore a white dress-shirt, dark-blue pants with suspenders and black shoes as well as his glasses. Shaun is quiet, intelligent and in tune with his surroundings. His top priority is taking care of his master, John. He's hardworking and doesn't fight unless provoked. He's very caring towards his friends and has been known to be quite blunt and sassy. He's on good terms with his master and isn't afraid to speak up if he disagrees with him. John used to attend school in Mirrorside Village along with Patrick, Louise and Shirley. Judging by comments from the headmaster, he was the top student. He often got into fights with Patrick, leading to them both getting reprimanded by their teacher. He was good friends with Shirley and a good older brother to his two siblings, because of whom he waited until the last moment to be selected. John trusts Shaun and has a great liking to him. Though the Shadows House teach the "Faces" to be like their Shadows, John offered to wear glasses so that Shaun, who has bad eyesight, can wear them too. Shaun is a boy's name that is of Irish and Hebrew origin, meaning "God is gracious"..
