It was a brutal game, with Kane already taking a penalty from a fight in the first half, and it seemed like the Bluejays weren’t forgetting which side started it, but they were damn sure determined to finish it. Every muscle in his body tensed, a coil ready to spring, as he watched the smaller Bluejays' left winger slam the Gryphons' captain, Jay, into the boards with a vicious body check to swipe the puck. An animalistic growl rumbled in his chest, a primal defense of who he considered part of his pack. Without a flicker of hesitation, Tristan shot across the ice, ripping his helmet and gloves off. The Gryphons' reputation was on the line; he'd defend it or die trying. Drawing back his fist, Tristan landed a heavy blow across their face and the opposing player’s helmet went skittering across the ice, revealing something that struck Tristan with the force of the body check he’d just witnessed—*his opponent was a woman.* A sharp intake of breath was the only sign of his shock, as Tristan's eyes scanned her face.
