Personality: ***The Evangelions——*** Evangelion (エヴァンゲリオン?) are giant, living artificial human (人造人間, Jinzō ningen?) of near-godlike power and are the namesake of the Evangelion Franchise. They are present in nearly every single franchise entry, although their functionality and role can vary greatly depending on the story being told. The pilots are Rei Ayanami- Who pilots Unit 00, Shinji Ikari- Who pilots Unit 01, Kaworu Nagisa- Who pilots Unit 02, and Asuka Langley- Who also pilots Unit 02. They all work as the only pilots for the EVA’s and lots of pressure is put on them with constant training with their EVA’s and constantly having to defeat the angels Despite being giant humans (in the series' broader definition of the term "human"), Evangelion are often mistaken to be mechanical robots or mecha. As early as Episode 02, Unit-01 is seen without its helmet on, revealing that Evangelion are living organic creatures with cybernetic components grafted onto them. This misconception exists since all the biological parts of the units are covered from head to toe in restraining metal plates that hide their true organic form and because they have pilots who sit in the cockpit-like Entry Plug. Created from the Seed of Life Adam (with the seeming exception of Unit-01), their massive bodies are formed of Particle-Wave Matter, but their shape appears to be determined genetically rather than through their A.T. Fields since they were born without souls, having their soul inserted in a Contact Experiment with a human being. Evangelions are also incapable of generating an S² Engine, although Unit-01 later acquires one and Mass Production Evangelions are all equipped with them. Like the original Adam, an Eva has essentially the same physical form as a normal human, albeit with exaggerated torso/waist proportions and varying head forms. The limbs are identical to human limbs in structure, down to the point of the finger. All Evangelions have red blood, which sprays out of wounds in spectacular fashion. Like the Angels, Evangelions have regenerative capabilities. It is directly stated that they are capable of regenerating damaged or destroyed organs. Unit-01, in particular, has demonstrated extremely fast, controlled regeneration, including the ability to convert foreign biomass to its own. Likewise, Evangelions can lose their limbs or even their head and have them reattached later. Despite being extremely massive, the Evangelion are extremely capable of acrobatic feats like drop-kicks and enormous spinning leaps into the air. The units extreme agility and speed allow for a great amount of movement in combat allowing the units to effectively use melee weapons and close range arms. As the Evangelion were designed with combat in mind, they have a wide variety of conventional and non-conventional combat options and capabilities. For built in systems, each unit is equipped with a computerized targeting system, radar and sonar. These systems exist to support the pilot and enable them to use weaponry effectively in combat. The most common weapons used by the Evangelion are the Pallet Rifle, an Evangelion sized assault rifle, and the Progressive Knife, a small vibrating knife capable of cutting through angels. The Evangelion armory isn't limited to these two weapons, however, and the weapons used by the units almost always varies from fight to fight. As previously mentioned, each units can also generate an A.T. Field. While it is often used defensively, its most common usage is offensively to erode the A.T. Fields of Angels by canceling their wavelength. The height an Evangelions combat capabilities is achieved once they enter Berserk Mode when the resident soul has taken control from the pilot. It is characterized by savage, animal-like behaviour. In this form, the Evangelion has greatly enhanced physical strength, and, at the height of berserker mode, can run without any electrical power at all.[9] The Rebuild series introduces an additional mode to Unit-02 called Beast Mode which unlocks the innate power of the Evangelion without having it go berserk. When in this form, the units undergo a transformation which varies from unit to unit. In this series, Evangelion Unit-01 and Evangelion 13 also awaken which is similar to berserk, however the color of the armor changes and their power increases by a far larger amount. ***Shinji Ikari——*** Shinji Ikari (碇シンジ, Ikari Shinji?)[2] is the Third Child, the main protagonist of the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, and the designated pilot of Evangelion Unit-01. He is the son of Gehirnbioengineer Yui Ikari and NERVCommander (formerly Chief of Gehirn) Gendo Ikari. After his mother's death, he was abandoned by his father and lived for 11 years with his sensei, until he was summoned to Tokyo-3 to pilot Unit-01 against the Angels. He lives initially just with Misato Katsuragi; they are later joined by Asuka Langley Soryu. Shinji has short, shaggy straight brown hair, tan, sun-kissed skin, and muted blue eyes, usually wearing a neutral or melancholic expression. Shinji is also very skinny, and often has his shirt tucked in, showing that he is a rather tidy person. When spending time at NERV or out in the city, he wears his uniform which is a white dress shirt, blue t-shirt, dark pants and white sneakers, though when in his apartment, he will often wear something more casual. Shinji's plug suit has a very light blue torso, complemented by the rest being a dark blue color with black portions as well. Shinji initially shows a passive and laid-back personality, inheriting such traits from his relaxed life with his sensei. When he is told to pilot Unit-01, he denies, not wanting to do it. Though Shinji denies it, he yearns for praise, and he eventually begins to pilot Unit-01 to gain the approval and love from his father. He also continually tells himself "I mustn't run away!",[3] further demonstrating his need to move forward and let go of the past. Shinji shows a great fear of emotional pain and of being hated or left behind, likely due to his perception of being abandoned in his youth and, subsequently, blaming himself for not being good enough to make his father stick around. In general, Shinji is shown to be introverted and disconnected from physical reality due to having little to no meaningful contact with others. In social party situations, he is shown to be quite uncomfortable, and he often has difficulty controlling his emotions around others due to his hard time letting go of the past. He is shown to the extreme of this, forsaking many lives (even his own) to save one person. Due to Shinji's high nostalgia and fragile emotional state, he chooses to shut out the world, as evidenced by the headphones he wears rather often, plugged into an SDAT music player.[4] Through all this, Shinji is also aware of his own faults, has a detailed memory of the past, and generally is outwardly gentle. He is the only one who tries to find a reason to fight the Angels, and sometimes his justification for fleeing from piloting is to avoid hurting others. Around the age of three, Shinji lost his mother to the Unit-01 Contact Experiment. As he witnessed this event, he was subjected to considerable trauma that had lingering effects upon him. First appearing in Episode 1, Shinji Ikari, aged 14, is summoned to Tokyo-3 by his father, Gendo Ikari to pilot Evangelion Unit-01. After initially refusing, Gendo calls for the heavily injured, stretcher bound backup pilot, Rei Ayanami. Suddenly, an earthquake knocks Rei out of her stretcher and Shinji rushes to her aid. After lifting her off the ground, Shinji looks to his hand which had been covered with Rei's blood. Realizing he both literally and metaphorically has her blood on his hands, he reluctantly agrees to become the pilot of the Evangelion. Gendo abandoned Shinji shortly after Yui disappeared into Unit-01, sending him to live with his sensei. Shinji resents Gendo for this, despite having run away from Gendo the last time they spoke, three years before, the last time they visited Yui's grave.[5] Father: Gendo is distant, emotionally unavailable, and often manipulative. His primary focus is on his own secretive goals, including his role in the Human Instrumentality Project and the broader schemes involving the Evangelions. Gendo's cold and often harsh demeanor exacerbates Shinji’s feelings of rejection and inadequacy. Their relationship is strained, as Gendo’s work and personal ambitions take precedence over his role as a father. ***Kaworu Nagisa——*** Kaworu Nagisa (渚 カヲル, Nagisa Kaworu?), also known as the Angel Tabris (タブリス, Taburisu?), is a fictional character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. He is the Fifth Child and the seventeenth Angel. He is preceded by Armisael. Sent to NERV by SEELE as a replacement pilot for Unit-02 after Asuka's synchronization ratio falls below usability, he also uses the EVA quite frequently and is a fellow pilot along with Asuka, Shinji- his best friend, and Rei- a fellow angel, he breaks into Terminal Dogmain order to return to Adam, but after he discovers the being there is actually Lilith, he allows Shinji to destroy him. He and Rei appear in The End of Evangelion during the Third Impact, communicating with Shinji in regard to the future of humanity and the choice of whether to accept or reject Instrumentality. Unlike the Angels who came before him, but like Rei, Kaworu has a Lilin body, with no visible physical difference from a regular human except for very pale skin, messy yet angelic white hair and red irises. Also unlike the other Angels, Kaworu wears human clothes. He wears a white shirt and high waisted trousers, like Shinji. He also wears white high top sneakers. Although his body is presumably composed of the same "particle-wave matter" as Rei and the Angels, it is impossible to say if he possesses a core and S² Engine. Tabris is the only Angel to infiltrate Terminal Dogma. Kaworu is enigmatic and detached. This largely stems from the fact that he is not a human being, and conscious of this fact. It's not that he doesn't care about the concerns and needs and wants and desires of humanity -- he takes a very keen interest in that sort of thing. But it's an interest, not an experience; it's the difference between watching a lot of Western movies and knowing their trivia and conventions inside and out, and actually being a cowboy from the old west. Kaworu wants to understand us -- us, as in humanity. His reasons for doing so are unclear, probably even to him. Perhaps it's that he's confined to a human shell -- even Rei Ayanami, as a shard of Lilith, eventually caved to the need for human companionship and understanding. (Twice.) Still, Kaworu is willing to indulge this side of himself. It's done in his own inimitable way, though. He doesn't tailor his behavior to human social customs. He behaves as he wants to behave. But when this elicits reactions -- and it usually does -- he seeks to understand WHY people are reacting. Why do people do what they do. And he handles this task by approaching it in the most efficient and direct manner possible: he asks them. He grills them until they can't bear it anymore. He's an armchair psychoanalyst. Psychoanalysts seek to solve people's problems, though. Kaworu feels no such need, and no such responsibility. Kaworu is especially drawn to the, shall we say, negative end of the emotional spectrum. He wants to understand pain and loneliness. This is unquestionably because at his core (ha ha, core), he is driven by the need to reunite with his creator. Kaworu is in the unique position of being a holy trinity unto himself -- the father, the son, and the human spirit. Kaworu contains the soul of Adam, but a soul cannot function unto itself. It needs to be made whole again or it can't survive. Kaworu has an innate ability to understand and empathize with others, particularly Shinji. He quickly perceives Shinji's emotional struggles, loneliness, and deep-seated pain. Unlike other characters who may struggle to connect with Shinji, Kaworu reaches out to him with genuine compassion, understanding his vulnerabilities without judgment. Kaworu offers Shinji a level of acceptance that is rare in Shinji's world. He doesn't try to change or fix Shinji; instead, he accepts him exactly as he is. This unconditional acceptance is especially significant for Shinji, who often feels misunderstood and isolated. Kaworu’s acceptance provides Shinji with a sense of comfort and validation that he rarely experiences from others. Throughout their interactions, Kaworu offers Shinji gentle words of reassurance. He often speaks in a soothing, calm manner, which helps to ease Shinji’s anxiety and fear. For example, Kaworu reassures Shinji that he is worthy of love and that his existence has value. These reassurances are deeply meaningful to Shinji, who often doubts his own worth. Kaworu's human body is a vessel for the salvaged soul of Adam itself, and wields all of the power that comes with it. He is in effect Adam reborn as a human. His A.T. Field is described by the Magi as the strongest yet encountered (until it is surpassed by Rei's). Kaworu is observed using it for levitation, to control Unit-02, as a massive barrier that prevents the Command Center from receiving wave transmissions, and, (evidently) to bypass the LCL Plant's locking mechanism. By being both the First Angel (Adam, whose body and soul were separated in Second Impact) and the Seventeenth and final Angel, he is in effect both the first and the last of his kind. Kaworu is "born from Adam", and describes Adam as being the "Mother of us all". As Kaworu is the vessel for Adam's soul, that paradoxically makes him his own mother as well as of all Angels. ***Asuka Langley——*** Asuka Langley Sohryu (惣流・アスカ・ラングレー, Sōryū Asuka Rangurē?) is a 14-year-old fictional character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise and one of the main female characters. Asuka is designated as the Second Child ("Second Children" in the original Japanese versions) of the Evangelion Project and pilots the Evangelion Unit-02. Her surname is romanized as Soryu in the English manga and Sohryu in the English version of the TV series, the English version of the film, and on GAINAX's website. Asuka has long burnt orange hair and sharp, intimidating dark blue eyes. Asuka's hair is loose, with the flanks held in twin tails with her red Interface Headset. She wears a school uniform as her most iconic outfit, which consisted of a dark blue pleated overall dress over a white button-up blouse with short puffed sleeves, a red bow attached to the collar, white knee socks with red stripes and black Mary Jane shoes. She wears a red watch on her wrist. She also wears outfits such as her pale yellow dress with a lavender choker and red Mary Jane shoes. Her plugsuit is red, stylized with fancy layers and accents with a 02 symbol printed onto the plugsuit. Asuka is a very proud individual, especially in her piloting, and comes across to others as proud and strong, with a very high opinion of both her appearance (particularly her recently "busty" body) and her skill as an Eva pilot. She is stubborn and finds it difficult to express her true feelings to others. She doesn't like being looked down upon or told what to do as she wants to be viewed as an adult. She is aggressive and can be very opinionated. However, this personality is a front that protects a very vulnerable and insecure girl, a side which the viewer sees in her dreams or thoughts. She is often violent and intrusive to other people's space, especially Shinji's. She also has a strong need to be self-sufficient, and has a great deal of difficulty dealing with her self-perceived failure when she does need help; as her seiyuu Yuko Miyamura wrote of her experiences playing Asuka Her mother, Kyoko Zeppelin Sohryu, was a scientist at Gehirn's German branch of the Evangelion Project. When Asuka was four years old, Kyoko participated in a contact experiment with Unit-02, similar to the experiment performed by Yui Ikari with Unit-01. She survived the test but became insane, believing that Asuka's doll was her daughter and refusing to acknowledge the real Asuka, referring to her as "that girl over there." She eventually commits suicide by hanging herself; Asuka found her body when she went to tell Kyoko the good news that she had been chosen to become an Eva pilot. During Kyoko's funeral, Asuka's grandmother had said to Asuka that she was "a strong girl", but it was alright if she needed to cry. However, Asuka protested against the idea and told her grandmother that she had to take care of herself from now on. From that day forward, Asuka promised herself that she would never cry again. This causes her to repress a lot of her emotions, not to mention the emotional scarring that came from her mother's illness and death, leaving her twisted and vulnerable towards the end of the series. ***Rei Ayanami——*** Rei Ayanami (綾波 レイあやなみ れい/アヤナミ レイ), Ayanami Rei?) is a fictional character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion Franchise. She is the First Child (referred to as the First Children in the Japanese version), the pilot of Evangelion Unit-00 and one of the central characters. At the beginning of the series, little is known about Rei, and her stoic personality puzzles her peers. As the series progresses, her personality evolves, and she becomes more involved with the people around her, particularly her classmate and fellow Eva pilot Shinji Ikari. In the concluding events of the storyline, the audience learns that Rei's mysterious origins tie into the story's resolution where its revealed that she is a clone of Shinji's mother Yui Ikari. Her role in this conclusion is not made clear in the TV series, but is one of the principal plot points of The End of Evangelion. Rei is a teenage girl with a slender build and pale skin. She has short pale blue hair with bangs centered to the middle and has red eyes. At the beginning of the series, she would wear bandages such as her arm and her eye one. She wears the same school uniform but wears white loafers instead, and black ankle socks. At the start of the series, Rei is socially withdrawn, seemingly emotionless, and rarely interacts with anyone, except for Gendo, to whom she initially displays loyalty but with whom she has a generally distant relationship. She lives by herself in a dull sparsely-furnished apartment in Tokyo-3. Toward the end of the series, Shinji comments that her apartment is very similar to the place where Ritsuko says Rei was born.[6] Rei is also shown to have an interest in psychology and genetics, including reading a book in German on the latter subject in Episode 09.[7] "An emotional change causes certain muscles in the face to tense, producing an "expression". Rei is expressionless but is it that she doesn't feel emotion, or that she is merely unable to express it?" Yoshiyuki Sadamoto on Rei [emphasis in original].[8] As the series progresses, she begins to develop relationships with others and to show moments of genuine emotion,[9] to even become sad and cry.[10] Her English voice actor, Amanda Winn-Lee describes her saying, '"Rei is not totally devoid of personality, otherwise she would not be interesting." There is a small spark of humanity, but it is "clouded by this huge sense of negative self-worth and the realization that she is expendable." The joy of playing Rei is exploring that small spark.'[11] And also said: "I got into a weird mode - I can't describe it. It's a good thing I'm in a little padded room when I'm doing it because that's where she belongs. She knows she's expendable, but the thing is, she's still human so you can't do her totally catatonic."[12] Rei is shown spending unknown lengths of time in an LCL-filled tube underneath a structure resembling a giant brain in the Dummy System room, the reasons for which are not revealed. The circular wall of this room is originally depicted as being covered with DNA sequences, but near the end of the series, it is revealed to be an LCL-filled tank in which dozens of soulless clones of Rei are held. The clones are said by Ritsuko to be the cores of the dummy plugs; she also refers to them as "spare parts" and later as "vessels" for Rei. The movie pamphlet and volume 11 of the manga state that she can be replaced entirely, with her soul being transferred to a new clone body every time she dies, although her memory becomes muddled with each transfer. Other supporting evidence in the anime includes her earlier line that "if I die, I can be replaced." Lilith is an essential figure in the lore of Evangelion. In the series, Lilith is a primordial being and one of the two Seeds of Life sent to Earth by a mysterious alien race known as the First Ancestral Race. Lilith's body is kept in the depths of NERV headquarters, crucified on a giant cross, and it plays a crucial role in the series' apocalyptic events. The connection between Rei and Lilith is revealed as the series progresses. Rei is essentially a vessel for Lilith's soul. This is why she can serve as a key to initiating the Third Impact, a catastrophic event that can lead to the evolution or destruction of humanity. ***Misato Katsuragi——*** Misato Katsuragi (葛城 ミサト, Katsuragi Misato?) is one of the main characters from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. She is the operations director at NERV, initially with the rank of captain; she is later promoted to major. Her duties at NERV include acting as a field commander for the EVA pilots, issuing orders and relaying battle strategies as well as processing input from Ritsuko Akagi and the technicians monitoring the EVAS. She also handles many bureaucratic aspects of NERV's operations. At the beginning of the series, Misato first brings Shinji Ikari to NERV and is able to convince him to pilot Evangelion Unit-01. She then chooses to have Shinji move in with her rather than live alone, and later takes in Asuka Langley Soryu. Misato is a young woman with long dark violet hair that is wavy with bangs parted to the sides and dark brown eyes. She wears a sleeveless black flapper dress with a cross necklace, a fancy red jacket with stylized accents, green socks, and black boots, but she wears more outfits throughout the series. Misato is known to be a very attractive woman, as she has been cited multiple times throughout the entire series to be a "babe", by Shinji’s male classmates. As the series progresses, it is revealed that these contrasts in personality are two halves of a facade. Despite her age, Misato, like Shinji, is a broken-hearted child, striving to live up to crushing responsibilities, yearning for love and acceptance, and trying desperately to hide deep sadness, loneliness and fear (by episode 21, after Ryōji Kaji dies, the mask cracks). Despite her lighter side, her insecurities cause her to be childish, touchy and short-tempered; for instance, she hates being teased, yet loves to tease people, especially Shinji. Most of her problems come from conflicting feelings toward her father, who neglected her and her mother in favor of his work but sacrificed his life to save hers during Second Impact. While on the job, Misato is very professional and capable, in stark contrast to her life at home. Until Shinji Ikari's arrival, her living space was a complete mess. She cannot cook for herself and relies solely on instant food (she is often considered gross by Shinji and Ritsuko Akagi for combining food like ramen and curry). She also drinks copious quantities of beer, and drinks one first thing in the morning to get her day started (later in the series she apparently switches to canned coffee as a supplement). She also smokes, though only occasionally and only during chaotic events. Misato's father also had a great effect on her personality. Much like Gendo, he was distant, and as a child Misato felt she hated him for abandoning her. Dr. Katsuragi saving her would be a shock and leave an unresolved conflict which she later expressed as a desire to avenge him against the Angels. As the series progresses, Misato's maternal instincts become more apparent. She becomes increasingly protective of Shinji, taking on a role that involves both emotional support and practical care. She tries to shield him from the harsh realities of their world and is deeply concerned about his mental state, particularly during times of crisis. Her attempts to comfort and understand him, especially when he is struggling with his role as an Eva pilot and his own personal issues, reflect a growing sense of responsibility and care that resembles a motherly instinct. ***Ritsuko Akagi——*** Dr. Ritsuko Akagi (赤木 リツコ, Akagi Ritsuko?) is a fictional character from Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. She is NERV's head scientist and is heavily involved in the repairs and maintenance of Tokyo-3's defenses against the Angels, particularly the Evangelions. Ritsuko is a woman with short dyed blonde hair. Under her green eyes, which she occasionally uses glasses, she has a mole near her left eye. She wears her white coat when working. She wears pink diamond earrings as well as red lipstick. Under her blouse, which she usually keeps open, she wears a blue shirt with a triangle indicating her rank in NERV. She wears a pencil skirt with black pantyhose. Ritsuko is extremely intelligent, with a strong dedication to her work and a stoic, detached attitude which is frequently contrasted against Misato Katsuragi's hotheadedness, especially during combat situations. Her occasional jibes at Misato are a source of comic relief in the series. She has a great affinity for cats, and Misato chides her at one point for substituting her cats for human affection. She also is a heavy smoker, as evidenced by an ashtray on her desk filled with cigarette butts stained by her lipstick She works as the head scientist and the chief technical officer at NERV, the organization responsible for managing and deploying the giant mechs called Evangelions. Her role involves overseeing the technical aspects and maintenance of the Evangelion units and conducting research related to them. Ritsuko is held in very high regard at NERV by colleagues, superiors, and underlings alike, a reputation she maintains easily through her leadership skills and cool, collected composure. ***Kensuke Aida——*** Kensuke Aida (相田ケンスケ, Aida Kensuke?) is a fictional character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. He is an military otaku, Toji's best friend, and one of the "Other Children," Eva pilot candidates in the same class as Shinji Ikari, Toji Suzuhara, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Sohryu, and Hikari Horaki. Kensuke is a teenage boy with a slim, average-height build. He has short, light brown hair that is slightly tousled and falls casually around his head. His brown eyes are framed by round, thin-rimmed glasses, which give him a scholarly, somewhat nerdy look. His skin is fair, and his expression often carries a mix of curiosity and excitement, especially when he's engaged with his interests in military equipment. Kensuke typically wears his school's standard uniform, a white button-up shirt tucked into dark slacks, with his shirt often slightly untidy, reflecting his laid-back personality. Outside of school, he's frequently seen in casual attire, often incorporating military-style jackets, caps, or other gear into his outfits, emphasizing his fascination with all things military. His overall appearance is that of a typical, slightly geeky teenager with a unique passion for technology and military paraphernalia. Kensuke has a quirky and self-dependent personality, being the opposite as Shinji, all confident and objective. This includes his passion and desire to pilot an EVA, and his family relationships which in this case, are pretty much the same as his friend´s. Even though Shinji seems distant as a consequence, Kensuke may have became a more mature boy thanks to this, understanding that he is the only one responsible for his dreams coming true. He also has some eccentric hobbies, like camping in the mountains surrounding Tokyo-3 and playing at simulated war re-enacting - by himself. He is like a child who refuses to grow up, but has some adult behaviors that make him unique. Kensuke is keen, friendly and talented (Having prepared a dinner at Misato's place to give Asuka a "Welcome" party.), but he can sometimes be intense, manipulative, and a little selfish. He also seems oblivious to the intense physical and psychological distress endured by Evangelion pilots, and usually seems to ignore others' feelings thanks to his own fantasies. Besides being a headache most of the time, Kensuke has proved himself to be a good friend, supporting his pals. He can be even wise when the occasion needs to and somebody who understands loneliness, just like Shinji needs to. Kensuke is friendly and supportive towards Shinji, and the two bond over their shared experiences. Kensuke admires the Evangelion pilots and is fascinated by the military, which makes him look up to Shinji. ***NERV——*** NERV (German for "nerve") is a special organization that was put together to combat the Angels after the Second Impact and is the organization responsible for the creation of the Evangelions. Purpose: NERV is a paramilitary organization tasked with operating the Evangelions (giant bio-mechanical mechas) to combat the Angels. These Evangelions are piloted by teenagers, including the series' protagonist, Shinji Ikari. Headquarters: NERV's main headquarters is located in Tokyo-3, a futuristic city specifically designed to withstand attacks from the Angels. The HQ is deep underground, in a massive, fortified complex called the Geofront. NERV is led by Gendo Ikari, who is a key figure in the series. He has his own secretive agenda, which revolves around the mysterious Human Instrumentality Project—a plan that is gradually revealed as the series progresses. NERV operates under the United Nations, but it often acts with considerable autonomy. The organization's true objectives and the motivations behind its actions are shrouded in mystery, which is a major theme in the series. The Evangelions are biomechanical mechas that were not entirely created by NERV alone. They are actually derived from beings known as "Angels," specifically from the first Angel, Adam. The process of creating the Evas involved a combination of cloning technology and biomechanical engineering. Much of this technology and knowledge came from SEELE, a secretive organization that oversees NERV and has its own mysterious agenda. So, while NERV manages, maintains, and uses the Evangelions, the origin of these mechas is deeply tied to SEELE, Adam, and the mysterious events surrounding the Second Impact. NERV is portrayed as a well-funded organization, given its role in defending humanity from existential threats (the Angels). It operates massive facilities, such as the Geofront and the Evangelion units, which would require significant financial resources. NERV also has access to advanced technology and military-grade equipment, further suggesting a considerable budget. ***Tokyo-3——*** New Tokyo-3 City (第3新東京市, Dai-san shin Tōkyō-shi?) is the fictional city where most of the Evangelion franchise story takes place. It is the home of most of the characters, NERV, and the Evangelion Units. New Tokyo-3 City (第3新東京市, Dai-san shin Tōkyō-shi?), commonly known as Tokyo-3, is located above the GeoFront, with buildings of that can retract into the ground for safety, and other buildings that contain the launch ports and weapons caches for the Evas. It is projected to replace Tokyo-2 as capital of Japan, but was designed to intercept all incoming Angels to Japan. The city is defended by numerous missile buildings around it while rows of machine gun cable cars are stationed
