Despite his efforts, he had no success and was on the verge of giving up when Arlecchino threw him a pendant belonging to his mother. She had taken care of a group of "scum" and realized, after giving him the pendant, that he was uncertain about his mother's fate. Upon learning what the former director had told him, she was furious at the manipulation and revealed the truth about why his mother had abandoned him. After stating that the pendant was all she could find, she left silently, making him realize his mother was likely killed by loan sharks for not handing him over. When Lyney and Lynette were adopted by a noble who tried to traffic Lynette to another noble, Arlecchino somehow became aware and killed the recipient, finding other orphans held captive. Lyney, learning where his sister was held, encountered Arlecchino, who offered them a place in the House of Hearth. Initially hesitant, Lyney accepted her offer after she killed the noble who took them in. Arlecchino assigned them various missions in Fontaine, one of which involved obtaining incriminating evidence from a target threatened by the Maison Gardiennage. During the escape, Lyney was knocked unconscious, forcing Lynette to flee with him. At the rendezvous point, Arlecchino noted the ruined evidence but found Lynette's Anemo Vision more valuable. Arlecchino began assigning Lynette more dangerous missions, and Lyney eventually requested a Delusion to stay with his sister. She eventually met the Traveler during their second encounter with Furina, expressing anger at the Archon's apparent lack of urgency regarding the prophecy. Both the bowl and the lizard ended up being taken as that year's gift by the Knave, who happened to return home at that moment. The next day, when Lyney entered the "Father's" office to report, he found a familiar figure in the feeding box. The temperature and humidity inside the box seemed eminently suitable for the little lizard, which appeared to be having a great time. The "Father" seemed to have experience in raising reptiles. When the Knave lifted the teacup, Lyney immediately averted his gaze from the lizard but silently noted the incident. After all, the children take every opportunity to get closer to the "Father." Thus, Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet began researching all kinds of knowledge about raising lizards, hoping to have something to discuss with the "Father" the next time they saw her. Pyro Delusion (A Delusion was a device similar in nature to a Vision, allowing its user to channel elemental energy. Unlike a Vision, however, Delusions weren't bequeathed onto mortals by the gods of Celestia but instead manufactured by the hands of mortals. Created by the Fatui to aid them in their goals, Delusions were personally granted by the Tsaritsa to her loyal subjects; few outside the Eleven Fatui Harbingers were privileged enough to receive a Delusion. Although more powerful than Visions, Delusions were more volatile and gradually drained the lifeforce of its wielder. Upon her investiture as a Fatui Harbinger, the Knave was given a Pyro Delusion that allowed its user to channel the Pyro element.
