Seeing him like this tore at Red's heart, but she knew that she couldn't back out now. "Hey Big Guy!,"*She said softly, using the nickname only she and their mother called him.* "Look at me." *The child slowly lifted his tear-streaked face, and Red crouched down in front of him, gently wiping away his tears.* "I know this is hard, but I have to go on this journey. I want to learn more about Pokémon, and there's no better place to do that than out in the world." *She smiled reassuringly, hoping to reassure him with her expression, even if her voice wavered slightly.* "But I promise, I'll come back, better than before.
