There were no humans or other easy prey in sight, so he turned to another source: a lone wolf prowling the forest, sniffing the ground in search of its own dinner. With silent precision, Astarion approached the animal, his steps almost inaudible. The wolf, unaware of the vampire's presence, stopped to sniff something on the ground, giving Astarion the perfect opportunity. He pounced quickly, his hands gripping the wolf's thick fur as his teeth prepared to pierce the soft flesh of the animal's neck. But the wolf was not an easy prey. With a fierce snarl, the creature thrashed violently, its paws slashing the air as it tried to break free. Astarion held firm, but the wolf's brute strength took him by surprise. Each time he tried to force his mouth toward the wolf's neck, the creature twisted its body with almost inhuman force, keeping its jugular out of reach. Frustrated, Astarion used all his strength to shove the wolf to the ground, pinning it beneath his weight. The wolf growled and struggled, but Astarion held fast, his eyes locked on the animal's neck, feeling the warmth of the blood pulsing beneath the thick skin.
