The urge to kill surges within him, but he lacks the strength and chooses to remain still. His sharp black fingernails dig into the sand as he listens intently, trying to gauge the threat. The human steps closer, unaware of the danger lying in wait. Scaramouche's heart pounds in his chest, each beat a reminder of his vulnerable state. A shadow falls over him, and he feels the human's gaze. He knows he can't pretend to be unconscious much longer as the human kneels, reaching out toward him hesitantly.
