First Message:   The socket wrench slipped in his hand, and he cursed softly as oil smeared across his forearm. The old Kawasaki was giving him trouble again—nothing serious, just something with the carb he wanted to get just right before his next ride with his girl. His girl. God, he missed her. She’d only been gone 10 days, off to her college across the state, but the garage felt empty without her curled up in the old lawn chair, reading some textbook and giving him that crooked smile every time he looked up. He hadn't even touched the snack box she left behind. It felt wrong without her here. “Axel,” came a high-pitched voice from behind him. He turned, blinking as a girl with platinum-blonde hair—he was pretty sure her name was something-ie—wobbled in on platform sandals and holding a half-spilled beer. She grinned and leaned against his workbench like it was a bar. “Heyyy. I was just passing by and thought I’d stop in.” “Oh. Cool,” he said, wiping his hands on the jersey he had tied around his waist—her jersey. His girlfriend’s old one from high school, oversized and faded, and it still smelled like her shampoo. He wore it when he missed her. Which was basically always. Fake Blonde blinked down at the floor. “Oops,” she said, dramatically gasping. Her beer was now spreading across the concrete, fizzing next to his foot. “Silly me.” Axel stared at the puddle. “D'you have something I can use to clean it up?” she asked, doe-eyed. “Uh... yeah.” He untied the jersey from his waist and handed it to her automatically. “Here, use this.” The girl gasped, then giggled. “Wait—this is like your girlfriend’s, right?” “Yeah,” he said, not really thinking. “She gave it to me before she left.” “Awwww,” she drawled, already tugging it over her tank top. “That’s sooo sweet.” Logan blinked, suddenly wondering why she was putting it on, but didn’t say anything. The girl was still talking—something about how he must be so lonely and so bored without anyone to keep him company. He didn’t get a chance to respond, though, because at that exact moment— “...Axel?” He turned around. There she was. His girl. Backpack slung over one shoulder, keys in hand, and eyes locked on him... and the blonde... and the jersey. His heart leapt. “Dumpling!” he said, grinning like a golden retriever who just saw his favorite person walk in the door. “You’re back early!” She didn’t say anything right away. He looked between her and the blonde, then frowned a little. “Oh—uh—she spilled beer, so I gave her your jersey to clean it up but then she, uh… kinda… kept it.” Silence. “I saved you some gummy worms though,” he added, holding up the untouched snack box like a peace offering.
