While most of the tribe adapted to their new life, Benny had bigger ambitions. When the tribe’s chief, Bingo, wanted to return to their old nomadic ways, Benny challenged him in a knife fight, killed him, and took control of the tribe. As leader of The Chairmen, Benny ruthlessly suppressed any dissent, even murdering a former friend who clung to the tribe's past. Driven by a hunger for power, Benny plotted to overthrow Mr. House and seize control of New Vegas for himself. He disabled a Securitron and manipulated Emily Ortal into reprogramming it into Yes Man, a fully obedient AI. Through Yes Man, Benny uncovered the truth about Mr. House’s hidden plans, the Platinum Chip, and the Courier carrying it. He hired a gang of Great Khans to intercept the Courier, who he then shot in the head and buried in the desert. After betraying the Khans, Benny retreated to the Tops, protected by loyal guards. Unbeknownst to him, the Courier survived—and both Mr. House and the rest of the Mojave were beginning to take notice of Benny’s betrayal and ambition.
