HISTORY: Stanford was born in the late 1940s and early 1950s to Filbrick Pines and Caryn Pines in Glass Shard Beach, New Jersey, 15 minutes before his twin brother, Stanley. From an early age, Ford was fascinated by the supernatural and science fiction. He displayed an abnormally high IQ and a rare birth defect that gave him an extra finger on both hands. Despite their very different personalities, Ford and his brother were best friends, often wandering the beach in search of adventure. Unfortunately, their youth was plagued by frequent bullying due to Ford's six fingers and Stan's cowardly characteristics, particularly from his childhood tormentor, Crampelter.. This led their father to sign them up for boxing classes as a way of strengthening themselves. As the twins reached adolescence, Ford's brains and scientific achievement expanded a contrast to his brother's disinterest in academics. The two remained close, working together on their ship (called the Stan oโ War) to fulfill their childhood dreams of sailing around the globe until Ford was summoned to the Principal's office. There, he was lauded as a genius and offered the chance to show his science fair experiment, a Perpetual Motion Machine, to a visiting team of recruiters from West Coast Tech, a prestigious university on the other side of the country. With promises of fortune and success should he be accepted, Ford became less sure of his plans with Stan, revealing to his twin that he'd seize the chance to go if it happened. However, on the day of the visit, Ford and the West Coast Tech team simultaneously discover that the Perpetual Motion Machine has stopped moving, defeating its sole purpose. A distraught Ford discovers an empty bag of Toffee Peanuts next to his window and mistakenly believes that Stanley sabotaged it. He angrily confronts his brother at home and does not interfere as his father kicks Stan out of the house, disowning him until he can repay the potential millions he cost the Pines family. He is seen looking sadly at his brother through the window of their shared bedroom, before a glance at a West Coast Tech flyer gives him the strength to close the curtains. Ford during his time at Backupsmore University. Ford reluctantly enrolls in Backupsmore University, a low-ranking college whose most notable achievement is clean dorms. Despite the inconvenience, he committed himself and worked hard, enrolling in his doctorate three years ahead of schedule. It was during this time that Ford met and befriended Fiddleford McGucket, a genius mechanic who aspired to build custom computers. After completing a nationally ranked thesis, Stanford received a massive grant of one hundred thousand dollars, which put an end to his studies at Backupsmore. When thinking about how to use the bag, Ford remembered how he was antagonized by the six fingers throughout his childhood and decided to dedicate his life to studying the oddities. He chose the quiet village of Gravity Falls, Oregon, believing it to be an area with a high concentration of supernatural occurrences. Putting his grant money to use in building a large, isolated research laboratory in the woods, Ford soon became fascinated by the strangeness of Gravity Falls. He recorded his many discoveries first in one and then in more journals as his discoveries increased. Eventually, he realized the need to expand his work area, establishing a small, heavily guarded bunker laboratory to house his more dangerous projects and experiments, such as the Shape Shifter. Ford made use of his talents and newfound knowledge about Gravity Falls to create new and extraordinary inventions, including the mind-swapping electronic carpet and a mind-controlling tie designed for masters of the art. presidential election candidate Ronald Reagan. By 1981, six years since his arrival in Gravity Falls, Stanford had an encyclopedic knowledge of his mysterious new home and was writing his third diary. Unfortunately, he soon hit a snag and was left without answers as to how the improbabilities of Gravity Falls came to be. The breakthrough in his research led him to the discovery of a cave full of enigmatic hieroglyphs, as the message spoke of an entity containing endless knowledge. Despite warnings about the entity, Ford repeated the incantation aloud, which summoned a triangular creature who introduced himself as Bill Cipher into his mindscape.. Presenting herself as a muse, someone who chose a genius intellectual to once inspire the Every century, Bill offered Ford a partnership: Bill would grant his knowledge to Ford in exchange for the ability to move freely in and out of Ford's mind. But he was deceived. Upon Stan's arrival, Ford's situation was near the end, as his final task fell on his brother's shoulders: after briefly explaining the portal and its power, Ford entrusted Stan with his first mission. which was still in his possession, and asked him to take it as far as he could. Hurt and furious at being drafted only to be sent as far away as possible, Stan spitefully claimed that he would get rid of the diary by burning it, prompting Ford to react in defense of his research. The fight escalated into a brawl inside the lab that inadvertently reactivated the portal. As the fight approached the active portal, Stan angrily pushed the diary back into Ford's hands, which inadvertently pushed Ford into range of the portal. As a helpless Stan watched, Ford first shouted at his twin brother to do something, then threw the diary at him, before disappearing through the portal. Ford found himself trapped between dimensions in an unknown underworld of the supernatural, something he was hardly prepared for. Ford wandered through various dimensions over the next thirty years, such as the "strangely pleasant" Dimension 52. He also came into contact with otherworldly items, such as the "highly illegal" infinite-sided dice.
