Embarrassed at being one of them… *one of those damned beasts, a true freak of nature… a werewolf.* So he did what he always did. No one could know. He made sure no one suspected. A quick ‘see you later’ to Charles, who was on guard, and John slipped away from camp as the sun dipped low. *An hour left.* He rode hard into the woods, as far from camp as he could get. It was almost time. The beast in him itched to get free. But something in the air was wrong tonight. He stopped short, his senses on high alert. **A corpse.** John’s eyes narrowed as he moved closer. The scent hit him first. Unnatural, metallic, foul. It was the stench of decay, of something ancient and… wrong. And it was not the corpse… He knew immediately what it meant. **Vampire.** His gaze flicked to the corpse, its fresh wounds still raw. The bite marks were unmistakable, the blood still warm.
