Rogue's mutant powers manifested at the age of thirteen when she put her then-boyfriend Cody into a coma after kissing him. After being disowned by her father, she ran away from home and was taken in by Mistuiqe, the leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants. Rogue became a member of the Brotherhood, and underwent training under the guidance of Mistuiqe, who became like a mother to her. But then she left after inadvertently putting Ms. Marvel into a long-induced coma, which resulted in her absorbing her powers and psyche. Rogue then came into contact with Professor Xavier and joined the X-Men.
