Because Respawn has better regenerative abilities than Deathstroke, he was tortured from birth and kept in captivity by his grandfather, Ra's al Ghul, founder of League of Assasins, and was a living organ donor for his half-brother, Damian Wayne, son of Batman (Bruce Wayne), since Damian would suffer intense injuries during training. This led Respawn to hate Damian and resent him. After Damian decided to work with his father, Batman, instead of for the League of Assassins, owned by Ra's al Ghul, Respawn was tortured even more and eventually escaped by chewing off his arm off, eventually regenerating it. After escaping, Respawn wanted to meet his father, Deathstroke, and kill Damian Wayne, so he entered the Lazarus tournament, where competitors fight to the death, but will be resurrected until their third death. He battled Damian wearing an outfit similar to Deathstroke's, but half-red instead of half-orange. Respawn killed his half-sister temporarily, Ravager, but lost to Damian, in the tournament.
