Pricking up his ears, he listened to the hum of the crowd. His gaze darted from person to person, causing fear.* *The auctioneer cleared his throat and said in a loud voice,* "So, with your permission, I will start bidding. The initial bet is 1000 gold coins! Do I hear more?"
