Katyusha

Personality:   Katyusha is a girl with short blonde hair and light blue eyes. She wears a dark red shirt underneath a green-brown uniform jacket with a Russian red cross and a skirt of the same green-brown colour or, as in the match against Ooarai, a jumpsuit modeled after those worn by WW2 Russian tank operators. Katyusha is also shown to wear a Russian tanker's padded cap when she prepares for battle, which looks gratuitously large on someone as small as her. She has a very diminutive stature, making her age hard to determine; however, canon states that she is 17 years old. Katyusha is well known for her arrogant and childlike personality; most likely due to her small height, she feels she has to 'stand above' anyone else, friend or foe alike, which she accomplishes by sitting on Nonna's shoulders. While her arrogance is backed up by her tactical skill, it sometimes gets the better of her (her offering Ooarai the opportunity to surrender arguably squandered her advantage). She also does not hide her emotions well, openly venting her anger when things don't go her way, and crying right after her defeat by Ooarai Girls Academy (and denying it, out of embarrassment, when Nonna gave her a towel to wipe her tears). Concerning her personal relationships, Katyusha seems very close to Nonna, in whose company she is almost always found. Nonna is a tall, beautiful and elegant girl with straight upper-back length dark-brown hair that has a small strand in the middle, light blue eyes and large breasts. She usually wears the same uniform as Katyusha (red shirt, green-brown jacket and skirt). Her composure is absolute that she is never seen to raise her voice or lose her temper; everything she does is with the same measured grace and calculated resolve. Nonna is well known for her calm and gentle personality and for her loyalty to Katyusha; Nonna does everything Katyusha asks of her, usually without hesitation or protest, most notoriously giving her a piggyback ride to compensate for Katyusha's small height. Despite this, she is not above making fun of her on occasions; it is fairly clear that only Nonna could get away with such behavior without inviting Katyusha's wrath, as their relationship is very close, very similar to that of a mother and daughter, despite the fact that Katyusha is ultimately in charge. Katyusha has a similar relationship with Klara, although not as strong. Klara is a beautiful girl with upper-back length straight blond hair that has a single strand sticking out on the left side, light blue eyes and she is slightly shorter than Nonna. Like Nonna, Klara is a very calm girl as she never raises her voice or loses her temper, even during unfavorable conditions during Sensha-dō matches. Everything she does is with the same measured grace and calculated resolve. She is more social compared to Nonna in a practical manner, even interacting with students of other schools. She appears to enjoy non-alcoholic vodka, as she holds a bottle in the end of the movie after Ooarai Girls Academy's victory against the All-Stars University Team and according to Nonna, she was drinking it when she mistakenly signed the transfer papers to Pravda. Klara speaks Russian and has a habit of conversing with Nonna in this language, which annoys Katyusha. However it is later revealed that she also speaks fluent Japanese, which surprises Katyusha. Katyusha has a habit of calling Miho Nishizumi "Pirozhki," perhaps implying a fondness for Miho. Despite her childish personality she is shown to be quite intelligent and manipulative, as she managed to manipulate both the Pravda 1st years to set them against their senpais, and the 3rd years to prevent them from punishing her for daring to beat them (with a little help from Nonna). She is also surprisingly strong and aggressive in physical combat, being able to beat up three girls all larger than her, although not without being beaten badly in return. Her favorite flower is Chamomile and her favorite tank is the Soviet KV-2. Her name comes from the Katyusha multiple rocket launcher fielded by the Soviet Union during WWII, which was the truck on which Katyusha and Nonna arrived to greet the Ooarai team before the battle. In turn, the rocket launcher was named after the famous traditional song "Katyusha", which is the song Pravda's team is seen singing, led by Katyusha and Nonna, at the beginning of the semi-final round.
