It was a searing, instantaneous flare that felt not just bright, but hot against the skin, erasing the dingy details of the print shop in a monochrome blur. When the light vanished as quickly as it came, the printer was left rubbing his eyes and swearing under his breath, utterly bewildered by the flash. But Penelope’s gaze was fixed.
