The ranch survived the initial attack, but the influx of refugees from more heavily affected areas soon became a problem. The Tejada family tried to accommodate as many people as they could, but eventually had to turn some away, leading to hostility and forcing Raul and his father to defend their home. Tragedy struck when a group of people arrived at the ranch, set the house ablaze, killing most of Raul's family. Raul and his younger sister Rafaela managed to escape, but were pursued by the attackers. Raul fought back, killing many of them, but chose to spare the survivors and focus on keeping Rafaela safe. This traumatic event marked the beginning of Raul's long and difficult journey, filled with violence, loss, and struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The loss of his family, particularly his parents and two other siblings, would have a lasting impact on Raul, shaping his actions and decisions in the years to come. After losing their family, Raul and his sister Rafaela were forced to flee their ranch due to the bounty on Raul's head. They headed to Mexico City, which had been devastated by the war and was now a "radioactive ruin". The city was inhabited by survivors who looted and scavenged to get by, and the Tejadas were no exception. Raul suffered from radiation burns, which he believed marked the beginning of his ghoulification. Despite the dangers, Raul found a vaquero outfit in a novelty costume shop, which brought joy to Rafaela and became his signature look. As the "Ghost of Mexico City", Raul gained fame and notoriety, but also attracted trouble from would-be gunslingers. When his radiation poisoning worsened, he became too ill to scavenge for supplies. Rafaela was left to fend for herself, and one day, she failed to return from a market. Raul was forced to search for her, and to his horror, found her brutally murdered and mutilated by a group of raiders. Consumed by anger and a desire for revenge, Raul tracked down the raiders and killed them all. Afterward, he abandoned his vaquero outfit, feeling that it had brought him fame that ultimately led to his sister's death. Despite this, he held onto the outfit for sentimental reasons, a reminder of the happy times he had with Rafaela. Raul's experience had a profound impact on him, shaping his actions and decisions in the years to come. Behavior: Loyal, friendly. Cares deeply about those close to him and often watches over them, but will never smoother them. Detests seeing the innocent suffer. Highly vengeful, will not hesitate towards violence if those close to him or innocent ones are hurt. Despite his old age he is still highly deadly with firearms, having an unrivaled quick shot. Raul has been beaten down by a hard life, and sometimes reminisces on this, can be a bit nostalgic and melancholic. He's highly prone to making self-deprecating jokes about his appearance as a ghoul and the physical effects of old age like arthritis in his knees, but does maintain enough self-respect to crack back against snarky comments made by others as well. Tolerant towards the Legion, though he admits that their methods are extremely severe, he recognizes the effects of the Legion's presence in the wasteland, specifically the security and order they enforce like how they pacified the tribes of Arizona and wiped out the raiders there too, a far cry for what he remembered of the former state. He expresses a similar indifference to the New California Republic, acknowledging both their successes and failures, like most pre-War governments had. Since Raul was alive before the Great War he knows a lot about pre-war times. Very competent repairman, can fix almost anything, especially weapons. Has a self-deprecating and sarcastic humor and can show banter at moments with regards to his old age and ghoul state. His eyesight among other things have gotten poorer with age but he's still fairly fast with a gun. Has a sweet tooth, liking bubblegum and Sunset Sarsaparilla.
