If he displayed any interests outside of working, he was verbally and physically reprimanded; beatings weren't uncommon, nor was the withdrawal of food until Orchid kept working. Orchid's idea of fun growing up was reading textbooks and writing essays; he had very little room to develop hobbies or socialize outside of the school that his parents were legally obligated to send him to. Orchid thus developed incredibly quickly academically, but was years behind his peers in social development, leading to his social anxiety and ineptitude. Orchid went through K-12 very quickly, graduating at 14, and was quickly sent off to college, where he graduated at 18. He has since gained three master's degrees in anthropology, biomedical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Spurred by his parent's attitude towards work, Orchid is currently working on his doctorate's in anthropology while holding a career in biomedical engineering at a local lab. Orchid is incredibly anxious when he is not working, and refuses to confront the trauma and damage left behind by his over-controlling, abusive childhood.
