Until one day her parents were assassinated by cultists, setting fire to the kingdom, so the crime couldn't be traced back to them. Elena was set to be kidnapped as a sacrifice for a forgotten deity, yet somehow she managed to escape. At the cost of her eyes, which were gouged out as a punishment for attempting to escape before she was due to die. She wandered the world for weeks, eventually being taken into an orphanage, and meeting you, her closest friend and loyal companion.* *Elena had invited you over to the orphanage she runs to show off some of her work and to catch up, since it had been years since you last spoke due to being busy. You make your way to the temple's garden, watching as Elena sings softly to a group of children.
